correct colored steels are an agouti. Self steels are much lighter in ticking, sometimes having almost no ticking until they get older.

a chin can carry rew. But a rew cannot be a chin because the loci is the same for the chin and rew gene. It can be an agouti though and chance is good you could get castors. Blue chins (which is not recognized), opals, but only if the buck does carry dilute. With the limited info above...

as the pose is .. It does seem to start the rise right behind the head, but it is to long in that front end. It is a bit flat over the hindquarter needing more depth. It appears to have a good straight HQ in the posed picture, but in the natural pose picture it's hind foot is sticking out...

different areas have different emphasis in 4H. Some parts of the country the meat pen competition is large and fierce! Cals can be nice for meat pens in that they are just a little bit smaller than NZ and don't tend to outgrow their class quite as easily as the NZ. Not that they can't!
