    Rare breed of albino cottontails

http://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/pet/3520970758.html Check out these rare albino cotton tail bunnies that are up to date on their health. I wonder what it takes to be up to date on health for an albino bunny & I wonder where they get the pigmentation for the dark points. These must be a super...

Having better luck with litters after this summer?

Are people having better luck with litters this year than they did last year after the summer? We only had about 30 days over 100 this year. Last year we had 70 and most were over 110. My does are appearing much more receptive and even acting pg. Last year it took till mid-december for most of...

    Is it just me..

Is it possible they are not getting all the water they need? Rabbits need a lot of water to eat because they don't produce saliva. If they don't have enough water, they wont eat. Fresh food gives them "water" as well as food so maybe they are having a difficult time accessing their water and so...

    forgot to potty the rabbit...

Last time I butchered, I emptied the bladders into a jar for my dh to use for trapping this winter. It's in the freezer now. I have always heard it stresses rabbits out too much to withhold food & water so I never have. They aren't hard to work with at all.

    URGENT: Rabbit's Health at Risk

My rabbits do that when they molt every summer. I didn't know it wasn't normal. The new hair always looks like the hair was shaved off. But it tends to be silkier and fresher looking with no damage or irritation to the skin. I thought all rabbits did that. My rabbits usually have some variation...

Don't make assumptions because of "mounting". Does do that too as a "pecking order" thing.

Brought a buck in to live in the house for a while

Last year after a horrendously hot Texas summer, I didn't get a litter of kits till after Thanksgiving and then it was just one litter out of 10 does. I didn't get multiple litters till Jan. That put me in a position to try to push my does to go longer to be able to get enough butcher babies to...

    Who let the rabbits out?

I noticed it right off too but I am familiar with "doctored" pics. They are sharp, the grass is sharp and all of the rabbits have the same irregular hour-glass shaped black on their noses.

    The right breed

I raise rex for meat and dd shows them in 4h. But the very best breed I've ever come across that is great for meat as well as show or pets, and in a variety for colors is the satin! I raise NZ, Champagnes, rex & satins and satins are by far the best multipurpose rabbit! The NZ great for meat...

I'm raising champagnes in Texas heat and after a summer and half, so far so good.

    I am related to everyone...

You probably wouldn't be willing to cull your offspring to prevent bad traits being set in the blood line. Right? I have 1st cousins who have 4 kids together and the bad news is, the dad's parents were also 1st cousins. That gene pool is rather stagnant. The family tree looks like a stump. More...

    Andy Griffith Died. Sad.

Andy Griffith is an Icon. He was everything Hollywood isn't. I love the idyllic world of Mayberry and even Matlock. His voice just makes you feel good. He reminds me of my dad. Truly the end of an era.

What do you think of this idea for lops/meat

After over a year on rabbit talk, I finally got an avatar. The buns are just beautiful! Two are broken and one is chocolate. I was so excited when I discovered my first ever chocolate was a doe and I could keep her for breeding! Now I must march myself out to the pen to get a good pic of them...

What do you think of this idea for lops/meat

This year, in addition to my meat rabbits I also bred some lops and mini rexes to sell as pets to help off-set the costs of feeding the meat rabbits. Didn't like the mini rexes, they are going away. However, I loved the lops!! and so did everyone else. The lops sold out faster than a single mini...

    Algae in water bottles

I always used raw rice to clean mine. If you use salt, I would recommend rock salt or ice cream salt.

    Watering questions

It is just 1/4" thread. We just used the drill bit that looked slightly smaller than that. Not sure what size it was. Out of 4 buckets only one leaks but it's not a problem for me. If I needed to stop a leak, I think I would fist try the white, stretchy, plumbing tape wrapped around the...

    Breeding in heat tolerance?

Idk. My experience consists of one year of record breaking highs for record breaking streaks and it took a good 90 days after so I don't know what a "normal" summer would do to them or how the ages would effect it.

    Watering questions

I had the same exact situation! Mine would NOT use the bottles that you described which irritated me because they cost so much and were worthless. I bought the automatic waters from ebay and they work great. All but one of my rabbits figured them out the first day! They aren't near as stiff and...
