Stubborn Doe-tried everything, any advice?

Is he actually penetrating? 2 or 3 fall offs is plenty, it shouldn't take more than that. If they have sticky backs, he may not be making actual penetration. Check him for a split penis. One of the most important things with rabbits this time of year (short days) is supplemental lighting...

Trying to help my sister....doe bleeding-update!

How deep is that burrow? Did you check it out? There could be kits in there...I would check. She also could be bleeding before kindling. Can you feel her belly and see if you feel any firm objects? You should be able to just lay your hand on her belly and press in gently.

    Need a tattoo system.

I have multiple breeds too. My tattoo system is this: O for One Acre Farm Rabbits, N or R if NZW or Rex (nothing for Cals) D or B for doe or buck, and whatever the next open number is for that breed/sex. For example: OD10 is a Californian doe, ORB15 is a Rex buck, etc. Those are for rabbits I...

    Needle Felting

I plan to check out your site :) Don't they make hats from felted rabbit fur? Like cowboy hats and such?

    making stock (broth)

Yep, I use a crock pot and let it cook at LEAST 8 hrs on high.

    Need a tattoo system.

There are a lot of options, like "GPDD**" for Green Pine Dutch Doe or "GPPB**" for Green Pine Polish Buck, where the "*" indicate a number, etc. or "GP11DD**" where the numbers following the GP indicate month born, etc. It will depend on what kind of tattoo tool you use, a clamp or a tattoo pen...

Way of marking kits from different litters?

Sharpie works, but must be reapplied often, as mom with groom it off. A small dot tattoo or even a dot of nail polish will last longer.

-- Wed Dec 02, 2015 4:58 pm --

Good to know...black wears off SOOOO fast!

Something Bad is About to Happen...

Pre 1965 silver coins are best, from what I have read. Depending on where you live, having a CHL doesn't necessarily mean they know what guns you have. In Texas, you don't have to tell them what guns you have when you get a CHL. We have enlarged our garden area with twice as many raised beds...

    Who were your first pair?

I wanted all of them to be Star Wars, but my youngest wanted Sonic and Aimee from Sonic the Hedgehog, lol

    Limping...Urgent?

Check her feet for sore hocks, check her nails to see if they need trimming, check her leg in general for any injuries.

    Snuffles? (URGENT!)

Yep...I am with Ramjet...I quarantine anything that "seems off" for at least a week...just in case.

    Skinning Question

Bucks are always harder to do, especially past 8wks. I find the rectum/tail will come out easily if you do it this way: 1: skin the rabbit, trimming the fur just below the tailbone, leaving the tail intact, then cut through the tailbone at the base using a pair of shears (make sure you don't cut...

    Who were your first pair?

We started with 4 rabbits, 3 does and a buck, from AA Rabbits in Willis, Texas. Our intent was to breed for healthy meat for our family.

    Hot Bunny Pictures?

We are in hot, humid SE Texas...we quit using frozen bottles years ago. Shade, natural air flow and ventilation are your best friends in dealing with heat.

    ReBreeding Help

With it being her, and your, first litter, I would wait until 4-6wks to rebreed. If she maintains condition, with the next litter you can rebreed sooner and see what happens. I don't like to do quick breedbacks on does that I am unfamiliar with.

Need to know how much blue cohosh??

Blue cohosh isn't something I would use without knowing more about it. I know for people it can be dangerous in certain quantities...I would try lavender buds, raspberry leaves, sage and calcium. The lavender and sage will help her pass the kits, the raspberry leaves and calcium will tone her...

Butchering Question--Resting the Meat from Rigor Mortis

It seems you missed the rigor mortis with your timing...LOL. Plus, it's much more noticeable with older rabbits. It lasts around 2 days, but doesn't start right away. Do you use an icebath when you process? I do, and that jumpstarts the rigor. If I plan to cook same day, I don't use the icebath...

    dead kits inquest

I agree with Dood on this one, they look emaciated. Kits that get chilled with milk in their bellies can die very quickly.
