What to do before sending bunnies to freezer camp...

Just a little side note on the process for me...as I have Native American heritage...I make an effort to do something in the way of a spiritual process. No matter what type of animal it is to process. I start with a short smudging ceremony to purify myself...I put on some native drumming music...

    Just a Note:

I just sent my first batch of fryers to freezer camp...all weighed in over 3 pounds when processed....I could not have had this success without the help of everyone here...you are a great bunch...Thanks

    Finally...Freezer Camp Time

My first litter turned 12 weeks old last Thursday....even though it was horribly hot outside yesterday...I sent 4 of those first 6 off to chill out in the fridge before actually freezing them. I was really surprised that on average the dressed rabbits averaged a tad over 3 pounds each...I will...

    Packaging for Freezer Camp

I will be sending 6 NZ's to freezer camp in a few weeks and started to wonder what everyone uses to package the meat, and how they do it. I have the basics of getting the rabbit ready to go to camp but.... Do you freeze the rabbit whole...or in parts? Do you use freezer paper or what... How...

    Summer Breeding

I have read some comments here about not breeding in the summer. I would like to get some feedback on this. I would like to continue to breed thru the summer if their is no danger to my rabbits.

    Why use baby saver wire

I guess I have to learn everything the hard way...went looking for my 1 week old NZ kits...found 3...but no #4...found him...had to cut the cage wire to get him out...Momma was really upset...but all is well...and baby saver wire installed...How on earth did that little guy get out of the...

    Insect Question

I have searched this site and not found much on insects. My rabbits are in a rather open environment, inside of a floorless tent, pretty much in the woods. I am concerned about insects getting to them. Is there any way to prevent this?

    Cage Building Tool

I just built a rather large cage. 8' x 30" x 18" with 4 sections. I used something that I had used many years ago instead of using the clips or crimps, I used safety wire pliers and galvanized saftey wire. Has anyone else ever tried this. I twist the ends of the wire up so there is nothing to...

    Food Care Question

My rabbits are housed outside in a tent, and my food for them is also kept in a similar situation (on the table to the right). . I have the pellets kept in a large plastic old cooler I also feed grass hay, and for now it is just on top of an old plastic table. I am concerned that the grass hay...

    Bunny McNuggets

Big Momma, my psyco doe finally had her litter last night...6...maybe 8...can't tell yet... When I got home last night and checked on her, I was happy that she had finally started to build her nest...in the nest box...instead of on the cage floor...she would not have any grass hay in the nest...

I really gotta learn to add

OK, so, I guess I was a wee bit excited about having baby bunnies, and misscalculated the due dates....only by one full week...and put the kindling boxes in a week early...that might explain why the girls are acting a bit odd...my NZ doe has been pulling fur for 2 days now...my psyco NZ/Cal mix...

    Nesting Box and Hay??

I built a nesting box for my big doe....8" x 16" with cage wire in the bottom...so if I put hay in there for her to nest in...what keeps her from eating it all first...

    Cage building question

what do you use to flatten the cage wire, as it comes in a roll, and tends to want to stay that way...also, what on earth do you use to cut this stuff?...seems like a lot of work with wire cutters...any good suggestions for clip crimping tools, and clips...TSC has one that I bought...it is now...
