Underweight rabbits at 10 weeks

I just butchered my first rabbits, a bred to a NZ Father and a Cali mother. It was my understanding that at 10 weeks I could expect 3-5 pounds of meat per rabbit. For 4 rabbits I got 5 1/3 pounds of meat on the bone. They were taken from mom at 8 weeks, had their food bowls kept full with a mix...

Rabbit seemed healthy, then 24 hours later, she was dead.

I'm actually rigging up an all wire cage setup in my basement. Once it's complete the wooden cage goes to the fire pit.

Rabbit seemed healthy, then 24 hours later, she was dead.

I can and have disinfected it. Unfortunately, The design of the cage doesn't allow for me to put it into the sun. It's a 4 stall, wooden cage with fully enclosed wooden hutches on the sides. I'm working on building some all wire cages in an inside area for them, but until they are done, I can't...

Rabbit seemed healthy, then 24 hours later, she was dead.

I had a flemish die on me tonight. She was only about 2-3 months old. I got her about 10 days ago. She seemed healthy. We put her in the only available hutch. It's previous resident had died from something. See this post: infectious-disease-that-causes-lethargy-t25862.html . I was under the...

What size hutches do you recommend for Calis, NZs, and Flemi

I'm starting to make new all wire hutches for my rabbits. I've had them in prebought wooden and wire hutches, and basically just gave them hutches according to size, i.e., flemish gets the biggest, smallest rabbit gets the smallest. I have a flemish doe, and some NZ Does, and some Cali does...

Did my rabbit have a heart attack?

I had a rabbit in an outdoor hutch. It had a completely enclosed area for the rabbit (4 1/2 month old Doe) to go to. When I checked it the night before, It was fine. I had actually just given it a once over. Nothing obviously wrong with it. Over night we had a major storm roll through that...

    Infectious disease that causes lethargy?

Huge thanks to Akane. I just started using water jugs in my hutches to cool them down. I didn't know that the condensation could lead to this. I'm fairly certain this is the cause. While I'm moving them in a to all wire indoor cages in a week or two, I will clean out my wooden cages like you...

    Infectious disease that causes lethargy?

Looks like I'm going to start with parsley, Gatorade, Oatmeal, and if I can find it, dri tail. I will also check for buildup around the backside. Thanks for your ideas everyone.

-- Wed Jul 15, 2015 12:14 pm --

I gave oatmeal and orange gatorade. I cleaned off their hind...

    Infectious disease that causes lethargy?

Any tips on how to take care of her until it's over? She will hopefully be in her new all wire cage within a week.

    Infectious disease that causes lethargy?

They are kept in a wood and wire 2X2 cage, so 4 cages. They have a hutch area that is enclosed to get them away from the sun. The ice jug is kept in there. They are new zealands with a pinch of Cali thrown in. They are about 4 months old. THinking back, lean isn't the best term. Small would be...

    Infectious disease that causes lethargy?

I learned on Sunday that I can't leave my rabbits for more than 24 hours. My rabbit (#1) knocked over her water dish and succumbed to dehydration. Her cage mate (#2) survived because she knew how to use the water bottle. I moved the survivor (#2) to a different cage and cleaned out the old one...

Does anyone know where to get non-leaking ball water bottles

On this subject, does anyone know how/where to get this type of spout for an automated watering system? I can only find the lever kind.

Does anyone know where to get non-leaking ball water bottles

I am looking to trade out my water bottles with the little lever in them for ones with the balls that stop the water from flowing. I bought some from Fleet Farm and they leaked like crazy from where the tip of the spout. I bought some online and they leaked too. Does anyone know where online I...

Rabbit with a floppy ear, is this something to worry about?

I recently started raising rabbits. I've had this one since 7 weeks, and she is about 12 weeks old now. About a week and a half ago, I started to notice her ear is floppy. Is this something to worry about? Also, is it a genetic trait? Thanks, Randall

Is this wetness around her eye something to worry about?

She has had this wetness for a few days now. Is this something to worry about? I just started raising rabbits, and I feel almost like a new father freaking out over every little thing.

Is it possible, smell wise, to raise rabbits in the basement

I've been considering moving my 5 rabbits (4 does, 1 buck) to my basement. It's between 40-60 year round down there, I don't have to go out in the heat or cold (Wisconsinite), and I can keep everything right there by the cages. I was considering all wire cages with a setup to deposit the feces...

Question about rabbits in fully wire cages

It is my understanding that rabbits need to re-eat their poop in order to maintain healthy bacteria in their gut. If a rabbit is raised on a fully wire cage, or in a cage where the ground is wire and allows the poop to fall through, how do they maintain the healthy bacteria?
