It is my understanding that rabbits need to re-eat their poop in order to maintain healthy bacteria in their gut. If a rabbit is raised on a fully wire cage, or in a cage where the ground is wire and allows the poop to fall through, how do they maintain the healthy bacteria?

They produce a special type of feces called cecotropes, which is usually taken directly from the rabbit's behind as it exits the body, and not off the floor of a solid bottomed cage.

The only times I ever see cecotropes underneath a cage are during late pregnancy, and if I've been feeding too-rich of a diet and a rabbit is producing more than it actually wants to eat..
