    $3 each Pinecones.....

Well, my neighbor's white pine has very resinous cones. I'd been hesitant to give them to angoras for fear of the cones gluing themselves into the rabbit's wool. Turns out half an hour in a low heat oven bakes the resin and it is no longer sticky....and yes, I am under selling those guys at $1...

    plantain seed ?

Okay, going to strip a bunch of seeds from the stalks and dry on paper towel for a couple days before putting in paper envelopes...(that's what I do with flower seeds....) Got to beat the mowers....thank goodness it's rained every weekend this month...lots of yards looking rough! And that's...

    First Success!

rabbit skin is so fragile when it's on the animal, I doubt it would hold up if just sewn together. You would have to have a very sturdy backing for that. Here's an alternative that doesn't put any stress on the skin. You make spiral strips and wrap the fur around leather thongs, then you...

    Cub scouts go overnight camping

This American doe is so large I've had to give her a nest box made out of a cat's litter pan with a bunch of drainage holes drilled in it. (And then I put a resting board over that to help keep everyone dry) Mom loves to rearrange the furniture and toys anyway so she keeps moving the "box" and...

Bunny Bran goes to the Fair

I have a vacuum sealer for my small sizes...the main issue is not letting moisture IN. I thought of putting it in 5 gallon buckets with those moisture absorption packs.....but I don't know how much weight I can get into a 5 gallon bucket.....since it's dehydrated, it is pretty light.

Bunny Bran goes to the Fair

Today at the State Fair, life was almost too exciting. I got up at 5:30, walked over to Pat's and stirred up a single batch of Branola, popped it in the oven and went home to feed rabbits. By the time I got back to Pat's garage, it was time to stir and staple business cards to the snack-sized...

    plantain seed ?

I want to save some plantain seed to add to my fodder this winter. I keep looking at the seed stems and wondering if they are mature enough to harvest....vs, are my neighbors about to mow them off. I'm sure the flowers have to die back and the seeds have to plump up....but beyond that, how...

    Pedigrees?

I like that suggestion. It lets the 4-H leader "try to fix it"...and may be just as bogus...but if it was actually a mistake, maybe you do get a better piece of paper. It only takes 4 generations to get a clean pedigree, if you really like this buck. And you don't have to have a pedigree to...

    supporting tiers of cages--cheap

Any pictures I have tried to take of the fencepost hangers is back-lit by sunlight. (And I HAVE tried to get youall a picture.) Maybe if I wait until dark and turn on the shed lights I can get the photo to actually show something.....

    Mom gets a break.....

I gathered some fresh dandelion greens before heading out to the shed this morning. Flake was first, and I was generous--she's got at least five F2 kits in the box. The bucks got about 6-8 leaves a piece. I threw a BUNCH in to Danika--she's got 6 with open eyes bugging the heck out of her...

    I am so-o-o ashamed...

I quite liked the "Yankee Ingenuity" of your gate latches...and I'm all about removable partitions....keep being flexible and you'll never grow old. :homesick:

    Pleasant surprise....

I've had American Blues for several years now, raised a few litters, but mostly just gathering the breeding stock from around the country. AmB's are a heritage meat breed that was almost lost after WW2 because of the white meat rabbit explosion. (They were called "Vienna Blue" prior to WW2 and...

    My current indoor cage setup

if you ever dismantle the condo---those panels make terrific pre-made doors....no sharp edges and big enough to put a nestbox through.

    Wanting an Oreo rabbit

You can get fantastic Dutch from show breeders. There is a very specific color regulation in that breed, like the white can only be in a certain area of the face, etc. (I don't know the Dutch SOP)-Standard of Perfection. Which is good for you..... Show breeders don't want perfect rabbits...

    Rabbitosis revisited

I was at a rabbit show last weekend, selling Bunny Bran (http://www.bunny-bran.com) and the people beside me were SERIOUS show people...really competative and not having much fun. One of the Netherland Dwarves they had was getting a long look-over. Great type! Perfect type! Wonderful color...

    supporting tiers of cages--cheap

DBA, I like this also because if you off set the overlap with wider pieces of cage wire, you can make a normal cage have Baby Saver Wire!!!! Rather than line up the horizontal wires of your cage and the spacer cage-wire, line up the vertical and put together with J-clips, with a three inch...
