New Reds

Maybe you guys can help me name the doe. She is unrelated to the buck so she will be his mate. They have pedigrees so I may keep the kits pure for the first couple of breedings. So what to name her ??

    Fodder sprouting systems, anyone?

I have been supplementing with fodder since Nov. I have found that the whole oats don't do as well as wheat. Here is the link I followed to get started. http://www.peakprosperity.com/wsidblog/ ... der-system I am using smaller trays than they had but doing exactly what they do. The rabbits and...

    Growling Doe

 Since she is meat, I would breed her. Sounds like she is a frustrated grumpy teenager . I think since she was bred before she is in a cycle of adulthood. That bell has been rung for her.

    New Reds

We just got some new New Zealand Reds this past month. I am so excited they are so pretty. I have not given up on my Silver Foxes but I have scaled back. They just broke my heart after loosing so many to the heat here. My New Zealand mixes and pure did so much better in the heat.

Thanks for the idea of switching out the water bottles for day and crocs at night..

Silver didnt manage very well at all!

I hope she becomes a better momma. I just experienced the same thing with a doe I got last Feb. I bred her this summer and she lost the two she had . They never made it in the box. Then just recently she had a litter of 7 . She ate one and stomped the others to death. She gets one more try since...

All that rabbit meat has paid off

I should. When canning season ends here soon I will :D I just scored two grocery bags of prickly pear cactus fruit. I am in the middle of putting it up. They lower cholesterol naturally too, but watch out for those tiny spines!

__________ Tue Oct 08, 2013 9:33 pm __________
<br...

All that rabbit meat has paid off

I just had to brag. I got my results today from the Doc. All my numbers are way better, bad cholesterol is 30 points down and good is up :)). All without drugs. :cheer2: Since this is why my husband and I decided to grow our own food and raise rabbits , I am excited. I have got to add I don't...

    'Shedding Monsters' Picture Thread

Between the rabbits blowing their fur and the chickens ditching feathers it looks like I have been fighting them in our yard. I went back the other day and counted chickens there were so many feathers I thought for sure one had been attacked.

    Seed Store Fun

Oh I wish we had a feed and seed like that here. The only place I knew that sold whole wheat to grow fodder from had their wheat silo collapse . No wheat indefinitely .

Another Passion: warning...not for the faint of heart.

We have coyote here. So far I have not lost a pet but rabbit escapees don't last long. Wish we had someone like you we could call.

Are you making money or losing money with your rabbits?

I am loosing money, if I look at it as feed cost out, sales of rabbit meat and live rabbits in. Then I look at it this way. My garden , fueled by rabbit poo, produced 30 jars of organic spaghetti sauce, 40 jars of salsa, 20 quarts of kosher dill pickles, 20 quarts of frozen green beans, 25...

Back on. I have been away way too long .

I need to get out and take some pictures. Yes we have expanded the rabbitry. The vegetable garden has kept me busy canning . Back on. I have been away way too long .

I have been so busy with work and taking care of the ever growing farm that I have been off for almost a year. I miss all of the news and information. :D We now have 14 chickens, 4 ducks and well .........last count of rabbits was around 50. This fluctuates greatly since we use the rabbit meat...

    Cages

Plastic! For sure . I have both types from Bass and the metal ones rust and are harder to clean too. I do like the doors that push in. If you need the door to stay open you can bungee it up with the hook type bungees. I have had rabbits get out. They have jumped out of upper cages and I was...
