    Breeding options

I have a quandary. Based on others' opinions of a doe I got with unknown provenance, other than she was about 5-6 months old when I bought her, I bought Aramis, a purebred French Angora buck. I had been breeding strictly for meat, and had NO interest in the pet market, and nominal interest in...

    Leonis Rex Gen II: SUCCESS!!!

I am on a Facebook group (Backyard Meat Rabbits)moderated by a gentleman named Boyd Craven, Jr. And I believe he is developing what he calls "King of the Lionheads" (just English translation of your Latin "Leonis Rex") which are large Lionheads (also know as meat in a fur coat). Cute rabbits, no...

    Do rabbits growl or purr?

I had 2 does that would "chitter" to each other when they were housed next to each other. It was for all the world like 2 old gossips, heard from far away enough that you could not make out the words.

    Any single ladies?

I kept waiting to see a picture of a buck, LOL!

    sudden death and GI stasis

I am far from expert, and have a very small rabbitry, but if I understand you correctly, it's only affected breeding stock, while actually breeding them. I can only think that it either has something to do with a carrier of an STD (any common partners among the dead bunnies?), or the location of...

    rabbit rant....

Maybe AKC rabbits are used to train Greyhounds?

    Funny "commercial" my kids made....

Reminds me of old Bugs Bunny cartoons - with Bugs as announcer and poor old Daffy racing down the road inside a box. Or maybe Wile E. Coyote in that role! Clever kids :D

I now know what being punched in the teeth feels like.

Wow, you are one restrained human being! I hope the guy at least paid for a whole case of cherry coke for you. {{{hugs}}} and a speedy recovery!

Not rabbits- but ducks! Plucking advice needed.

I helped process 10 ducks, and we used the scalding water method of feather removal, wearing rubber gloves and hanging bird by its feet, and essentially rubbing the feathers opposite their growth direction. I believe they then scorched the pin feathers with an acetylene torch, though I am not...

Zabs Rabbits - picture thread :D

Good photos! Between my hands shaking, the bunnies twitching, and my camera phone being not such good quality, my shots always look like the buns have extra ears! One of these days, I will set up the tripod and use the real camera. Love your bunnies, especially the black ones!

Rabbit Pellets w/o Corn or Soy

While it is wonderful there's no chance of GMO's, I have to raise an eyebrow at #5 "Canola Meal", since Canola is a "brand name" of sorts: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canola. Also that protein level seems much too low, unless you are also feeding alfalfa hay or cubes.

Will kits sneeze at hay if they grow up with it?

Perhaps you can get some hay from a different source? I had one litter who were fine in the feeder hay I put in their cage at home, but started sneezing after the first livestock swap I took them to - I was soooo worried it was Pasteurella, but after about a week, they were all fine again. Next...

Need help with bunny foot abscess!

I haven't had as much success with bucks as with does, but when treating injuries, clipping nails, or pulling out fur mats, I have found that wrapping the rabbit in a towel, like a baby in swaddling, calms it right down. Sometimes it requires 2 towels, because your aim is to secure the...

    Breed %'s

While your math is correct, it's my understanding that recombinant DNA doesn't work like that. It's like the dwarf gene thing: a lot of people think the math there means 25% of the total kits will be peanuts, when it's actually that EACH KIT has a 25% chance of being a peanut. Some people never...
