this is all i could find for ingestion and syptoms that wasnt just all about eating castor beans >.<
and all my searching for ricin poisoning that ISNT about castor plant/beans..... nothing... so far.
You probably won't find any either. Extraction of ricin from castor beans is popular because it's easy. The "not easy" stuff tends to be in peer-reviewed articles on pay sites. I may have gotten two alkaloids confused, pharmacology was only ever a hobby. My bio degree focused on anatomy and genetics.

"The cardiovascular effects of ricin in rabbits."
...
This was just a long-winded way of saying "Its blood-pressure dropped, yo."

Systolic and diastolic blood pressure is the specific amount of pressure exerted on the arterial walls during a single heart beat. One measures the pressure at the height of the "push" and the other reflects the natural pressure that exists between beats. Examining these independently allows for a more detailed explanation of what is actually happening from a pathological perspective.

"Ricin disturbs calcium homeostasis in the rabbit heart."
...
Part of what a cell needs to live is a proper pressure inside the cell compared to outside the cell, as well as to maintain proper nerve function. This is regulated by salts. Calcium is one of those salts. The imbalance of calcium in the blood prevented proper nerve function to the muscles and killed muscle cells. it also interfered with mitochondrial function. Mitochondria produce ATP. If a cell were a car, ATP would be gasoline.

"Effects of ricin on the ability of rabbit arteries to contract and relax."
...
This just says that ricin prevents the heart from beating rhythmically.

Same with the last one.

So, you said the rabbits were limp, not seizing, which means it's likely not ricin, but rather a paralytic. Back to hemlock. I personally still find that unsatisfying because hemlock (categorically, not just Conium maculatum) has several different poisons in it per species, and these vary by species. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I feel kind of like House, but without the cane.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

not at all. i learned something at least. even if its not pertinent to this situation.
i dont think i trust myself to ever know QAL from wild carrot enough to eat it myself though. :x

I feel kind of like House, but without the cane.
 yes well on the bright side my lil sister (16) thinks he is one of the hotties of TV... i dont trust her judgment after she told me that
though i do love that show.<br /><br />__________ Sat Feb 02, 2013 12:44 pm __________<br /><br />so the other day (like monday, i think) 2 of my growouts were dead.... >.< so i figured if i stop feeding hay it will stop if its the hay, and if its not then it will continue or possibly get worse....

well this morning i go out and FOUR ARE DEAD!!! so i guess whatever it is, its worse with no hay...
i am officially out of ideas at all! i'm lookin for alfalfa bales for sale near me, but i dont even know if its going to help... at this point i'm about ready to say i'm not meant to have rabbits for now... :( which i really really really really dont want to do. but i dont know what else to do...

Man, that sucks! Four more!?!

Well...if it isn't the hay and it isn't the feed...have we ruled out the water? Supplements?

I saw a movie a week ago about a dairy farm who's cows were dying mysteriously. Turned out it was electrical surges...it wasn't a true story I don't think but...since we can't seem to find any other logical reason.... electricity perhaps?

i dont have electric in my barns.
my youtube videos, need to do a new one though. if you see anything that might be causing this though, by all means point it out.

i dont know about water testing... we have a well and we've never had any problems. my guinea pigs and rabbits all get the well water, the goats have a creek runnin through their pasture. but the springs that feed the creek also feed the well some the way my dad did some piping and maneuvering.

i'm waiting for relpies from several people on alfalfa hay bales.

i had some mineral and salt wheel things but none of the rabbits wanted anything to do with them and they got sprayed all over and just nasty. so i took em out and never put em back in. maybe i'll stick em in some cages to see tomorrow.

i put ACV in the water. started that just after christmas i believe.
