I really think it is your food. .. because you have lost a few in a row and you have changed food 3 times .. it could be because they couldnt ajust to well on the change or there is something wrong with the food. I would look into going to grain formula. At least you know what you are feeding them. There is still a chance for mold with any food.

no. I dont thing there is no need for that..

THANK YOU! i have a pretty strong stomache... but i dont wanna see whats inside that!

I believe this rabbit died of bloat. The stomach has necrotic tissue or ulcers and the gas is a by product of a bacterial bloom from GI stasis.

Causes of bloat can be stomach ulcers from diet or stress or obstruction.

The mycotoxin rhizoctonia (brown to black) -- found especially in clover. Its toxin causes salivation, diarrhea and bloat.

Current literature from the UK reveals bloat is caused by a blockage or obstruction in the GI tract, that may be due to a foreign body (carpet) or tricobezoar (hairball). During postmortem exams on rabbits whose cause of death was GI Stasis or bloat, Dr. Paul Flecknell found an obstruction at the exit to the stomach (pylorus or duodenal flexure). The tissue at this site was often dead (necrotic). He also found instances in which the lining of the stomach had eroded with bleeding present.

we have alot of the trees but i dont feed them or anything from them. i know they give out toxins in the roots as well to make it so not many plants can grow by the roots so they get all the water and nutrients.
i dont feed it at all for sure.

I have no idea what the cause may be, but there are several things I see that don't look right.

The overall color of the stomach seems pale and "off" to me- my rabbits stomachs look kind of greenish because of the food content. The spots on the stomach could be necrotic tissue- perhaps from ulcers? The stomach also has a yellow spot where the liver was removed.

I did not see a bile duct on the pics of the liver- I wonder if it may have burst and caused the yellow spot on the stomach?

Lastly, the intestines are inflated with gas. I had two rabbits with pinworms, and their intestines looked like that, but I have also processed other seemingly healthy rabbits that also had gassy intestines.

I am stumped, but there is no question that the rabbit was ill.

Hopefully someone will have some more input so you can solve the problem. :clover:

there was a yellow spot on the stomache. about the size of my thumbprint.

this is as good as i could get of the stomache. it was just all liquidy and sour. I about barfed all over the flashlight, camera, and rabbit. it just kept pushing out more liquid stuff.

Whatever hit me the other day with that necropsy has apparently worn off quick. i just browsed this while eating a schnitzel and had no bad reaction whatsoever. My son, on the other hand...

and in case anyone is wondering about possible causes...

link to a video of my barn (need to make another update)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stCulit-BAA

and the only thing with paint in my whole barn is the feed barrel. and i keep my feed in the feed bags and scoop it out so its never in contact with the paint.

thanks for that link. ya her stomache was nothing like that one!

This looks like bloat. A bloated rabbit will have an AWFUL smell and intestines full of gas. It's not from them sitting, it's that they are basically dying from the inside out. It's likely there are symptoms you aren't seeing, pay very close attention to how rabbits are eating, their feces, their water intake. Put some old fashioned oatmeal into their feed. It's a gastro issue from food or hay or mold or stress or conditions...or anything...rabbits stink. SOrry you're going through this.

__________ Tue Jan 22, 2013 12:20 am __________

And I witnessed a rabbit die of bloat and it's identical to what you described

That is so horrible. :( I saw all the gas in the innards of that poor rabbit. So they can look like that right after they've died, no sitting?

i could feel her stomache was bloated when i first picked her up out of the cage this morning.
i didnt think to put it here earlier but i could hear liquid noises as well. which after the stomach thing... noise was definitely coming from her stomache...

ok so i'm a dummy and just realized QAL is like natures birth control... we have tons of it and its plenty in the hay. though i usually pick out big peices of stuff that doesnt fit in the cage door anyways.
could eating too much QAL (queen annes lace) cause this? and how to get rid of it in feilds other then picking by hand?? (i'm on 250 acres! just one hay feild is like 5 acres, give or take)

looks like i'm going over the edible/poison list again...

__________ Tue Jan 22, 2013 2:47 pm __________

one of the young weaned rabbits died this morning.
it HAS to be something in the hay. thats the only thing it can be. this one was in the growout hutch like 10 ft outside the barn.

i have 1st cutting from last year and 1st cutting from this year. i was feeding last years cause it looked better, grassier. but today i pulled all hay out and started feeding from this years bales. hopefully this is my problem and they stop dying....
