    breeding for 4h

Meat pen breeding requires the rabbits to not be over 10 weeks of age. They must weigh between 3-5 pounds. This is a requirement for 4-H and ARBA sanctioned shows.

    Anyone's litters picture thread!

Thank you JenerationX ! Later today they will be 8 days old already! The mom is taking superb care of the little ones! I really looked them over last night and they are all developing so nicely - it is going to be hard to choose what to retain!

    Tips for Handraising Kits

Miss M - I don't remember how old they were but I believe they were roughly a week old, give or take. Zass - I think sheep milk may be more rich but I think the big thing was that it is sweeter than goats milk and did not have an odor to it like goats milk does if you have a buck on your farm...

    Tips for Handraising Kits

I successfully bottle raised a litter of 5 French Angoras. It was my very first litter I ever had and luckily I was only in high school and not college:). My doe was giving off too much milk and developed mastitis. I had to milk her out each day, give her medicine, apply hot packs to her...

    dogs and rabbits

It really depends on the dog. Years ago we had an old English sheepdog who could not be trusted at all with rabbits. Our current one is very sweet towards them and while I would never leave her with one, she has never shown any indication she would turn it into a meal. Our chug, on the other...

    Anyone's litters picture thread!

Thanks WhWRabbitry! I was really surprised myself:) I had no idea she would have this many. Guess it is a good thing I only bred her as I don't have a lot of extra cage space! My other 2 does I bred end of September each had 6, so I was kind of expecting something along that line...;)

    Anyone's litters picture thread!

Here are some purebred French Angora kits born Christmas day. Mom was supposed to have them on the 23rd but instead had them on the 25th. All 10 of them. Makes total sense now:)

What to do with the Angora yarn

I personally love angora scarves and am working on spinning up my smoke pearl wool into a nice yarn for another scarf:)

    what do you breed?

I breed French Angoras, New Zealand Reds, and Satins. My French Angoras were the breed I initially started with and probably my favorite of the 3. I have been working very hard on breeding for rabbits that as I like to say - are built like a New Zealand and wool like a hybrid. So far I have...

    Prime Fiber

I know, lol! I am a pretty heavy culler and have been very happy with my latest litters. I have been breeding French Angoras for 4 years now and have been working on improving the type and density and it looks like I am heading in the right direction! I have been getting really nice babies...

what is the best spinning wheel to buy

I am assuming you are looking to spin angora wool on a wheel? I can't tell you much on wheels (I want to get one but don't have one yet) but I use a drop spindle to spin my angora on and it does a fantastic job.

what colors do you think they are( new pic)

Most likely torts, blacks, and blues. They sure are pretty and shiny - are they Satins, Mini Satins, or Satin Angoras?

Fleas... it has come down to this.

I have heard that using kitten flea powder will do the trick. I've heard Sergeants is a good brand and was told by another rabbit breeder to use it if I ever ran into this issue (which luckily I haven't!). Hope you can resolve this issue soon!

    Prime Fiber

If you have seen sheep's wool you will notice that it has a "zig zag" appearance. This is the crimp in the wool. Angora rabbits also have this and French Angoras are expected to, per the Standard of Perfection. I might have a good picture of a crimpy coat but I would have to look.

    Disenfecting cages

I usually scrub the cages with a brush, then bleach them, and then torch them. I haven't had any illness issues happen in my herd. If you can keep the dropping pans and cages as clean as possible then this makes the job easier.

Need help putting weight on momma bunny

I have found Calf Manna to be excellent. It is higher in protein so helps build muscle and the rabbits gain weight. When I had a rabbit that decided he was going to go off feed he dropped a significant amount of weight, and giving him Calf Manna and increasing his feed allotment slowly but...

    Litter Training

Thanks so much! Yes, they are quite adorable. They are getting big. I love the transition from the hair to the wool they re going through as they are getting larger and larger looking as the wool gets in! They are Ruby Eyed Whites.

    Prime Fiber

I consider prime fiber to be anything over 3" that is clean, crimpy, and even staple length, whether plucked or clipped. Anything that does not fit all my expectations above I consider seconds and either spin it myself or card it up and blend it with wool.
