    another huge litter

There are 14. Littlest just an ounce, biggest just under 2 ounces. We may let the other doe nurse a few of these if needed. Just after weighing them, Beans popped into the box and fed them for a good 10 minutes. All looked very good when I got home from work, at least 12 hours after I found...

    another huge litter

10 days ago, our black doe (silver fox cross maybe) had 10 kits and all are doing well. One runt, but even it is gaining, but only 1/2 the size of the other kits. Got up this morning to our Rex/NZ cross having another huge litter. I think there are at least 13 or even 14 kits in there. I...

Hi from Oklahoma. Why did you start raising meat rabbits

I feed my Great Danes raw and got my first 5 rabbits as culls. then decided with research to raise them vs purchasing for the most part. I will buy some auction buns for the freezer to get stocked up for the pups. I LOVE critters and enjoy messing with the buns. Building and picking up cages...

    anyone heard of it?

Pet stores in many states can and do sell AKC registered puppies. Primarily from puppy mills. Tragedy in the making nearly everytime. As far as "Designer Dogs" go....Expensive Mutts and people are crazy enough to fall for the hype. If you want a mutt, they have lots of them at the shelter and...

she had 7 popples- Broken bones :(

My doe had 10 kits, so we have been weighing daily. So far all are gaining nicely, with the smallest being the same weight as the biggest was the day before. I bumped up Mom's food, added alfalfa cubes and she is in the box 4 or 5 times a day, so all are getting nicely fed. Hopefully this...

Mama eating hair from around babies

It appears she was just cleaning up her nest. We added some dryer lint which she worked around her babies. She ate all of her pellets, all of her hay, all of her oats and was begging for food today. I gave her 1/2 cup pellets, 1/2 cup oats and an alfalfa cube, which she chowed on immediately...

Mama eating hair from around babies

Thanks. I am an overprotective Mom in many ways. I was worried she would hurt her babies, but I have been checking and she has been relaxed since her re-arrangement. We are weighing the babies daily since there are 10 kits and only 8 faucets. So far so good. Even the little ones were a bit...

Mama eating hair from around babies

Our new Mama started eating some of the hair from around her kits when I put the four littlest ones back in their box for a feeding after weighing everyone. Most have gained almost .3 ounces, but the 4 littlest are still right around an ounce or 1.1. She did hop in the box after a few minutes...

    New Popple pics!!

We got some decent pics of all 10 of the kits. Also one with Mom on them. The nest box is 14" long by 10" wide. Any guesses on her breed from this pic???? She weighs about 7 or 8 pounds in normal weight. Buck is a Siamese marked Satin (I was told. Could be a Classic tho) about 10 pounds.

    First litter!!!

I just looked at my breeding calendar again, and she didn't kindle when bred to the rex, so I bred her to the Siamese marked Satin (which with research I think is actually a Classic, although they are shiny and sleek as all get out). He is a fawn color with a brown points.

    First litter!!!

Not knowing for sure what breed Mom really is makes it kinda hard to call. I had hoped but since she is all black, there may be no brokens behind her. We can keep a doe or two and try again. She is a bit smaller than a NZ but has a longer head than any of the dwarfs, plus isn't really dwarf...

    First litter!!!

We ae so excited at Big Dog Rabbitry!!! Our black doe Mama gave birth to 10 kits today. When I left for work at 5:30am, she was in her box, but no kits. At 8am when the Daughter checked her, there were 6 popples. When I got home a little after 4pm, there were 10. It looks like they are all...

    Poor wittle pooty-tat

MY Maine Coon female has not been spayed due to a heart issue. She regularly gets the Screamin Meemies and keeps us up for 2 or 3 nights, takes a break for a few days then goes again. Several weeks of quiet then one more time for good measure. This is the first cat I have ever lived with that...

    New lionheads

These are our first Lionheads. Purchased as show stock with nice pedigrees. That said, I know little to very little about them other than the breeder said to be sure to brush them daily, especially since they are young and will blow coat (not sure of his wording on that, dogs blow coat) while...

    New lionheads

We have 3 lionheads right now. a Torti female born in Oct and a Black double doe and blue double male born in Dec. the two youngsters are so furry you can't see their little eyes. Be ready to brush everyday, sometimes twice to save having matts or tangles. If you want to show you have to keep...

    How much oats are OK?

My buns were all way too fat and I haven't gotten any kits. :( I cut the pellets waaaay back and upped the hay. I give a 1/4 cup oats at night, 1/4-1/2 cup pellets in the morning and free hay all day. Everyone is looking much better now. Working on rebreeding the whole crew. I felt...
