Who is going to Anderson, Missouri 2/22?

Wow! Mt Vernon is a lot further for me, but I can understand the need for a larger venue. I had every intention of going, even had the room reserved, but the wind storm that came thru earlier in the week dropped a rather large branch thru my front porch, and unfortunately home care came before...

    In the nest box pics

This final group of pics are all nestbox babies, all less than a week old. The oldest is a litter of blues - 13 were born - 8 survive. These have the same Mama as the litter where all of the bkn blues died, but a different Papa. This is the litter that prompted my earlier post about their REW...

baby bunny pics #2 harleys & tris

This is a litter of Harleys and tris - 4 of each and 2 each of each sex. The OCD fairies were smiling on me! Harley is not showable, but necessary to get the tris. The tris are showable, but unfortunately, first time Mama chewed on 2 of their ears (both the does, of course) so only the tri boys...

    baby bunny pics

I have quite a few litters right now. Thought I would take pics and share. This is the remaining 4 of the oldest litter. Their 5 siblings were the broken blues who all died. Two boys, two girls, one of each color. All appear to be showable at this point but I think the bkn doe will be the best...

Bummer! I'm not going to get to go after all. Stupid wind storm!

    Question on Neutering/Spaying a rabbit

Some vets have a preference for what age they prefer to spay a dog or cat. I would assume it would be the same way for rabbits. I suggest she first find a rabbit knowledgeable vet, and then ask the vet at what age they prefer to do the surgery. IME, I prefer not to give advice such as this to...

    Excited and waiting

There is never a sure thing in rabbit breeding, but as a rule, the gestation period is 31 days. It has been my experience that maiden does are generally on the long side of that, kindling the night of the 31st or 32nd day. It has happened that some does deliver on day 28, and some have even...

Looking To Possibly Buy: PLEASE READ

I am prejudiced, but English lops are my favorite. They are clownish, happy, friendly and generally have a wonderful personality. They don't take any more, or different care, than any other rabbit, short of keeping their toenails trimmed to avoid ear punctures, they just need a larger cage. My...

Who is going to Anderson, Missouri 2/22?

My sister and I are going. I will be taking 7 senior English lops and she will be taking Satins. Anyone else?

Is this a tricolor or bruising?

Dood wins! Funny how the color patterns on different breeds appear a little different. Very cute little bunny and adorable tiny ears!

    Finding chocolates

I can't help you at all with the genetics part of it, but I will be at the Anderson Missouri show this weekend if you felt the need to sell that lilac doe.... or any others. PM or email me :D

Is this a tricolor or bruising?

I'd be interested in seeing an updated pic of this baby. Personally, even in tri's, I've never seen color patterns so separate and so definitive. Any follow up?

    REW not a hidden broken?

Well, the litter of 13 blues is down to 8. Still perfectly acceptable, in my opinion since one of the dead was a runt, and the remaining 8 all seem to be of equal size and well fed. I'm hoping for the best for the rest, since she raised 2 blues from her first litter. After a bit of time off...

    REW not a hidden broken?

Most of you will probably remember my post from awhile back about my REW Mama, bred to my bkn blue torte Papa, that produced 10 bunnies but only 4 lived. All of the bkn blues died. The general consensus was that she was carrying a bkn gene and the bkn blue babies were genetic charlies, even tho...

    little rumble bunny

Male rabbits fight. Its a fact of life. I own an acre and see wild male rabbits fighting all the time. If an acre isn't big enough for 2 male rabbits, how will 5 ever get along in a smaller space? I would keep separated and either accept that fact, or rehome them. I'm afraid some severe damage...

    Mama brought the blanket!

The blue fell in the water, got his fur wet and stuck solid to the urine guard that same night. The rest just seemed to be failure to thrive. I lost 5 during one bitterly cold night, and the other two over the next day or two. Mama was always like above, snuggling with the babies, keeping them...

    Mama brought the blanket!

The perks of having 28" ears! On a sad note, I should have posted this earlier. This was the litter that even tho Mama seemed to be taking great care of everyone, I lost all of them. The pictures were so sweet tho, I wanted to share.

    Blood on Resting Board

You didn't say what breed of rabbit you have, but this winter has been a horrible one for my English lops. I find blood on the sitting boards daily, normally from an ear tip. If not a lop eared rabbit, then I agree, probably a toenail or pee, or possibly even a pulled tooth.

Once a day or twice a day

It is my opinion that it depends on the doe, and possibly how comfortable they are in their cage / barn / location. I am sure a couple of my does feed at least twice a day, possibly even more, as the babies were always fat with full milk tummies no matter when I checked them. I've also got does...

    2 more weeks :)

I wouldn't worry. Most rabbits are great Mama's, even first timers. And if she's not, since you don't have another Mama to foster babies to, you just have to let her learn. Just make sure you have the items to give her the most advantage - a proper sized nestbox, nesting materials, proper...
