This is not ARBA affiliated either and the rabbits aren't removed from the cages unless they are competing for showmanship. You do not have to be in 4H or FFA to show in the youth division. That's the most I know. LOL
I really know about zero when it comes to showing. I was looking through the fair catalog and one of the rabbit categories is "doe with litter". What does that mean? What are they looking for? Do you have to enter the entire litter? Is there a min/max number of kits? A min/max age for the kits?
He has a bunch of rabbits he lets run loose all over his property. A woman brought some rabbits to his butcher shop to process and they got loose. He caught one and she said he could keep it. He took it to his house and all his rabbits started to die.
I met a man who is a butcher. He said a woman brought rabbits to him for processing but they got loose. The problem is that they had some type of lethal kidney (maybe kidney?) virus. It was contagious through the urine. They pee, another rabbit sniffs it, contracts the virus and dies within 3 or...
Learn something new every day! I had no idea that wetting the rabbit down would help keep the fur off the meat. I'm going to start doing that immediately. Thanks for sharing!
Uh.. maybe because I've been gone for so long that my cookie expired and I needed to log in! LOL
We have been super busy. I started working a few part time jobs that have pretty much fizzled out :( The farm is going gang-busters! We're ready to butcher our first batch of turkeys...
Has anyone used these bags for bagging rabbits? We're trying it for the first time tonight and not really pleased with the results yet. Looking for any tips.
OMG the flies have been HORRIBLE!!! We have a zillion fly strips up but they are nothing compared to the hoards of flies we have dealt with today.
We butcher inside our garage with the garage door open. Adding a window AC and keeping the door closed is not an option any time soon.
How do you...
During our butchering today, I cut open a stomach because I wanted to see what was inside. Nothing but poop. Not any grass, not any pulverized pellets. JUST poop!
We opened some other stomachs and they looked great - a little or no poop, lots of grass and digesting pellets.
Why would a rabbit...
Well, 20 rabbits butchered. We still have one more litter to go. I think there's 8 or 9 in that litter. What's really awesome is that Greg's 13 year old daughter got involved and butchered too!
