Doe on Day 35, Please Help!

I just thought I would reply to the original question - Blue Cohosh is a plant, and I'm not sure at all how the liquid you show would be used. I use dried herbs, with a mixture of the four listed in the thread you originally posted your question on. I would imagine that the extract is...

    Bruised kit

We've had a couple kits who got bruises on their belly, and I think what happened is the doe stepped on them or otherwise injured them. We cull when we see this, because in all likelihood they had internal injuries and we didn't want them to suffer.

    Weight?

I don't know about crosses, but our original does (both the runts from their litter, we discovered) were 6.75 lbs and 7.5 lbs at 4 1/2 months when we bred them for the first time. Even though they were small, they had good litters, and does we've held back from them have been much larger at the...

What amounts to feed doe--with/without kits?

Dry doe: generally 1 oz of pellets per pound of weight as a maximum - though ours usually eat less than that so we feed enough that there are still some pellets left at feed time from the previous nights feeding Pregnant doe: I know that people say to increase the feed the last week of...

    Question about breeding interval.

There are so many different answers to this question! It really depends on what your needs are production wise. The more intensive the breeding schedule, generally, the shorter the usefulness of the doe. So a commercial breeder who breeds back their does at one week post-kindling might...

Dolly's kits and expecting a new litter

So cute! I keep meaning to take pictures of our Christmas popples, now you've inspired me! Love the color and the little white feet and pink noses of your kits.

    Nesting boxes

We made our nest boxes out of white cutting boards for the sides, and secured 1/2" hardware cloth to the bottoms. Very easy to sanitize and the insulation value seems good, plus the waste is allowed to drop down through the wire. In the winter we put a piece of cardboard under the bottom for...

    Limericks, anyone?

There once was a buck from Yurst, Who in the ways of love was well versed. The sign at the gate Of his well appointed crate Read "My pretties, who'd like to go first?" Is that clean enough?? All I could come up with on a moments notice. :D __________ Wed Dec 31, 2014 12:08 am __________...

Sick kit--cull or antibiotic? What illness?

The weighing and charting only takes about 15-20 minutes per day, so it's not a huge thing. Plus it's fun to watch up close as the babies grow! We are new to rabbits this year, our first breeding date was April 15th, and we only had 11 litters this year. It does help that we sync our does so...

    My little ones finally came

Congratulations!! I'm glad that you got some popples from the litter! :D

    removing kits

We remove all but the two smallest kits at 5 weeks old to the grow out cage. Then about 3-4 days later we remove the last two kits to the grow out cage. We haven't had problems with mastitis or enteritis so far. Our does are re-bred 25 days after kindling, so they are 10 days pregnant when we...

Sick kit--cull or antibiotic? What illness?

I just had a thought - I'm not a vet, so this is just my take based on just 9 litters of babies - not counting our new ones that were born yesterday! :D I'm in doubt as to whether that rabbit is even "sick". It's fairly common to have a runt, and it's also fairly common among kits to have...

Pricing opinion? Have a buyer for ALL of our excess rabbits!

Thank you both for the feedback! We are just looking to get the cost of the feed back - or as much of it as possible. That way our "cost" for the meat we eat would just be our labor and any capital improvements. As for the calculations, yes, the cost of the does maintenance is included. I...

Our second litter due any day now!!!

:mbounce: :mbounce: :congratulations: I hope they are all healthy - I'm jealous about the solid blacks, we get one single solid black in each set of litters, but they always die within three days! Enjoy and Merry Christmas!

4 Week weights are in! How do they look?

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the weights of the kits in the next litter! Congrats on the first one!
