Limericks, anyone?

All right, RT'ers, time to get your creative juices flowing! :gettowork:

Inspired by the thread drift in this post, chuck-puts-up-with-a-lot-t23444.html where MaggieJ started the limerick ball rolling, I have decided to start this thread of limericks. Clean limericks, mind you.

They are a simple form of poetry (don't want to stress our intellects too much!) that follow the AABBA formula.

:explanation: The "A" lines have 7-10 syllables and rhyme with one another, and the "B'" lines have 5-7 syllables and also rhyme. Lines one and two set the story (usually with a location and character name), lines three and four are witty, and line five is the punch line.

So, without further ado, here is my initial effort:

Wanting to give my family a treat,
I decided to raise rabbits for meat.
I would never have guessed
I'd become so obsessed,
and need RabbitTalk to make life complete!

I once got into a Dueling Limericks scenario with Oggie over on HT. He always had a limerick to post about just about any situation. I don't think either of us won the duel, but we had fun.

I'll try to post a limerick tomorrow... fresh out of inspiration tonight since I spent most of today back in 1891.

But he was defeated--
His guests wouldn't eat it.

here's my first attempt:

Just for show are Lionheads
For meat are Zealand Reds
Who knew both were delicious?
Who knew I could be ambitious?
And feed the crew a stew, of pedigrees and bread

Mucky's a Velveteen lop
With rex coat and ears that go flop
She doesn't do tricks
but cuddles and licks

. Oh, now don't call it too soon: Maggie and Miss M haven't spoken yet, and MSD will be back with more. And something tells me if Grumpy gets in the game we should be in for a good laugh! But glad you enjoyed it.

But what is a rabbit Burgoo?

Just a fancy-pants name for a really thick stew made with vegetables, meats, and what-have-you. When I lived in Kentucky it was a big Derby day dish. I like eating it but never made it. Mystang might have a recipe. I will post a recipe for Georgia Brunswick stew, though. If your spoon doesn't stand up in either dish, it's not thick enough!

Well....technically they don't HAVE to be Belgians (or even rabbits), but it was originally a hunter's stew, where you'd slowly cook wild game like possum and rabbit with lots of flavorful veggies so the meat was tender and not gamey..and since Belgians are hares, which are much more like wild rabbits...yes, yes, I can see an argument for why you should get some Belgians. In fact, you'd be doing your global and patriotic duty: helping another culture by preserving a heritage breed, and using it to make a heritage dish that preserves Appalachian history. Now that I think about it, getting those hares is your duty!

Just start with two does and a buck
A lot of research and some luck
Then discover RT
And soon you will be
Growing meat that you don't have to pluck.


We thought we had chosen our breeds
Knew we'd use natural feeds,
But questions kept coming
With options mind-nimbing
And the bunnies kept growing like weeds.
