    How many rabbits?

Sounds like you're set up to find out :D I found out 60 breeders was more than I need. Having so many at one point helped my herd though because I am culling back to the best 20 does and 4 bucks that I have and leaving space for growouts.

    Rex and high temps.

Thanks for the info ya'll. I just wanted to make sure they were compatible with the climate. Don't tell my NZ's they are supposed to have fans and misters at temps above 80, they may go on strike

    Rex and high temps.

I am interested in Rex rabbits. I really want a trio. How are they suited in general for warm humid climates? I am wanting them for fur and meat.

    Line Breeding

Been pouring over my records, comparing data, checking condition on does, litters, and bucks. Sold and culled some and got 5 more to cull ASAP. I now have 6 or 7 empty cages for growouts I have 4 establisbed lines plus the beginings of 1 or 2 more. Got a bunch of 2, 3 and 4 week old litters...

    How many rabbits?

If the cages are full I'm a happy camper. So then the question becomes how many cages do I need lol! Rght now my count is 37 does, 7 bucks, and 80 something yet to be weaned. I am right where I want to be except for 3 does and 1 buck that need to go camp. So I'll be at 34 does, 6 bucks...

    Best, Cleanest, Fastest Dispatch?

For mature animals I use a .22 rifle loaded with short cartridges. Very effective. For fryers I use the bop and then do cervical dislocation by hand. I realize that these options are not feasible for everyone but it works very well for me and my rabbits. Absolutely the worst part of raising...

    Line Breeding

My goals are simply to produce the best meat producing rabbits I can in my climate. The main things I am looking to improve are heat tolerance and litter weight at weaning, and longevity of production for does. My main concern is that a couple of my foundation does are 3+ years old and I...

    Opinions... Best Pellets??

I use the Lonestar 18%. It is only 13.99 a bag here. I have had a lot of folks recommend the Petrus feed but it is a 70 mile.drive to their facility in Alexandria. It is only 20 miles to the Lone Star dealer.

    Line Breeding

I have some tough decisions to make in my breeding program. I have several 1st generation does (group 3 on a line breeding chart). They are good producers but I need the cage space to continue with my line breeding. My question is how long do you generally keep your first generation does? Does...

    Record keeping ?s...

I bought some Pedigree and Record of Performance sheets from Bass Equipment when I first started out. They go in a 3 ring binder. I still use them. I was going to order some more from them a few months back but the shipping was rediculous so I just made copies of one of the unused ones.

YAY! Found 14g wire at TSC!

The stock panels are a great idea Grumpy. I just so happen to have a couple leaning up behind the barn. Gonna get to chopping. GAW 14ga 1x1/2 is so hard to find.

    The runtiest runt...

Cute rabbits. What breed are they? I know as a "commercial" rabbit raiser I am supposed to cull the runts at kindling but I rarely do. I have a couple customers who prefer smaller fryers so they work out well for me.

Red Necks, White Sauce & Blue Ribbon Beer

Looks pretty awesome. I'll have to settle for a roast beef sandwich and a cold Coke for lunch.

    I know, I know, but...

It seems harder on the doe, but that in turn transfers to the kits. I don't have any problems until temps hit the low to mid 90's depending on humidity and wind speed. When the temps hit 90 the fans get turned on.

    Litters, litters everywhere.

Well grumpy at least you are alive and kicking. Me and the boy may make a road trip this summer. I have a hankering to see some new country. I'm pretty sure Corey hasn't ever been north of the Arkansas Ozarks. He will be 17 in a few days. We need a little adventure.

    Litters, litters everywhere.

Those two little ones on the left look like they have been eating to me. It is pretty standard to have a runt or two. If the next doe to Kindle has a smaller litter it wouldn't hurt to put the two runs in with her. May not help, but it sure won't hurt lol. I took some pics yesterday but I have...

    Litters, litters everywhere.

I wanna say it was August 2012 when I got her. She should be going on 3 years old. I currently have 20 breeding age rabbits that have one or both of the two rabbits I got from you in their lineage. That is over half my current breeders. I dunno when I'll be headed up that way Grumpy. If you...

    I know, I know, but...

I raise NZW'S as well. I usually breed the does at around 5 months old. I also breed straight through the summer depending on the condition of the doe. In other words I am not going to do any 14 day rebreeds in the heat of summer. I usually stick to 42 or 56 day rebreeds from June through mid...

    Litters, litters everywhere.

Yup Grumpy they do. The doe you gave me has a fat happy litter of 7 right now herself. I have 5 of her daughters that have litters right now as well, not to mention her grandaughters lol.
