It finally stopped snowing. The skies have cleared and we are about 14 degrees. We had *zero* snow when it started late Monday night.

__________ Wed Dec 04, 2013 10:56 am __________

I just went out to do morning chores. Our water bottles didn't freeze!!! We got down to 6 last night. It is currently about 14, but we are right around 32-34 in the rabbitry. It will be interesting to see if we continue to stay above freezing as the cold temps drag on. I am thinking about adding another brooder to help keep us above freezing during these cold nights.

Last year we struggled and struggled to keep the rabbitry above freezing. I posted a pic of my rabbitry at 16 degrees. That was miserable. My fingers kept freezing to the j-feeders.

I hear it's coming, I've been watching the forecast. I filled up the kerosene can, put feed bags over the barn windows. juggled buns around. Today will probably be the last time I can use the outdoor spigot. I'll empty pans tonight, and they will freeze over and be impossible to empty for the next month or so. Sneezey doe is still outside (I know, I know), I built a hutch around her cage. Bring it on!!!!! (not really).

Freezing rain and wintery mixes perdicted down past Dallas starting tomorrow. Might drop down to 40 here with rain. Keeping fingers crossed for everyone that will have to brave the ice and snow.

I don't have to worry about back breaking shovel work. I own an assault shovel. Plus an ATV with a plow blade...

We got new shovels, with make it much better. Our old one didn't have a metal blade. The new ones do.

I didn't get a blade for my atv this year. Had to rebuild the top-end instead :/

Just finished shoveling our driveway that is 3 cars wide and our sidewalk. I had kids helping, but it's still a ton of snow when you are dealing with a foot of fresh snow.

My assault shovel:

Now if I can just get Fernie used to operating it, snow can get cleared in less time :rotfl:

Like. We just returned my in-laws snow blower to them. We are more capable of shoveling than they are.

Methinks Fernie is going to be assaulting YOU, Bob!

And not in a "nice" way...

You --> :chair: <-- Fernie

Just finished morning bunny chores, and it's a Lovely 0* here in So CO. 6" of snow too. I'm about 45 min closer to the mountains than Homer.

Of course this would be the weekend I have two momma buns due. Hope the first timer gets it right, I wont have a chance to foster them to the more experience mom if she doesn't. Guess well see! *keeping fingers, toes, and eyes crossed saying this, really wanting steel and chinchilla angora babies!*

Not quite as bad East of PSF. We're having a heat wave, 3* F here. Only got about an inch of snow too but that's OK by me? :)

Good luck with the babies! When my buns were outside in this weather I use to stuff their hutch so full of straw you could barely tell there were rabbits in there. Now they're spoiled and took over my heated shop. :-(

We woke up to negative temps this morning. Our high for today is predicted at 17 degrees. We'll see how water bottles did when I go do morning chores.

They are predicting more snow for Saturday. They are predicting 2-4" and our experience has been that we get double what they are predicting due to lake effect snow.

HalfPints,

where are you in central CA? I'm 50 miles NE of Bakersfield in the mountains at an elevation of about 4350- and it was 17F when Hubs got up this morning. (I was still blissfully abed! :p )

It is 34F now, and a "dry cold" so not too bad.

Well, water bottles froze. We were about 22 in the rabbitry, below 0 outside. I did a little more work on the doorway to make it a little more weather resistant. We ended up with snow blowing into the rabbitry in the last storm. It's a challenge to make it very weather tight since there is a gate.

Thinking about making insulating sleeves for over the water bottles. Maybe I'll start a new thread to get some help with my ideas.

I live right next to the ocean, in a little city called Arroyo Grande. Elevation is 118 ft. By the way, there's a show in Bakersfield in January (?). Are you going?

Yes, I'll be there. That's my most local show.

It's a long trip for you though- do you have friends or family out here?

It dropped from somewhere near 50F today to 35F. :( I emptied trays and clipped nails.

Not really, no. Besides, 2 1/2 hours isn't bad, compared to 4! :x We might be going, depends on how finances are. Maybe we could meet up! :D

Two and a half hours isn't bad- one of the map services I used earlier said it was 4-1/2- 5 hours! :x

Maybe? There is no MAYBE. Of course we will get together! :D

Just got in from cleaning cages. -3*. Still need to top off feeders and hay racks, but i'd like to make sure that I can feel my fingers again first!

Told DH before he left for work that when we move in a couple years I want a place that has a building for my buns. No exceptions!
