Thanks, Satins. My neighbor has industrial type fans in his barn (he raises mules and donkeys)- I will have to ask where he bought them. I think they were around $100, but better to spend the money on a good fan than lose everything to a fire. When I get the info I will post it here- he usually finds good deals.

Yes, please! I need a good heavy duty fan myself.

Lowe's has industrial-type fans. I'll have to look at them to see what might be suitable and affordable. All of our house-type fans are in use upstairs to try to keep temps in the house relatively even and tolerable.

Oh, and OAF, if you still have your mil ID or a VA card, Lowe's is really good about giving a 10% discount every day of the year (not just "military" holidays like Home Depot). They have to get a manager to approve each time (I guess some people were abusing it), but we have saved a TON of money over the past couple of years since I found out.

Valley Vet sent out a promo email today with barn fans on sale. PM me your email addresses and I'll forward it to you. I think it's an email only promo.

That would have to be a serious promo, the least expensive fan is $99.

I saw several old chicken-house type fans in a thrift store a few weeks ago!

that would be a cool find :) i think I'm going to go with the one at lowes.

try hanging your frozen water bottles directly against the back of your box fan that is pointed to wards the rabbits, makes a nice cool breeze, replace as they melt.....

Farm Tek has some nice fans and a mist system that goes on the fan itself...

I dream of farmtek, they've out priced me by $$, unless I start selling some rabbits to fund this venture, I'm way in the whole. I'm dipping into Phoenix's dog show fund as it is.

Misting is a no-no in this old wooden barn. It has no concrete foundation on the bunny barn side, and I have a serious fly problem from the water dripping from the bottle and crocks. Adding more water would be a mess.

__________ Wed May 30, 2012 4:34 pm __________

This rabbit habbit is quickly getting out of hand!

I like using the metal Realtree Energy Drink bottles. The rabbits can't chew them, and they stay much colder, much longer.

Plus, well, they're camo.

And yes, I do drink enough Realtree Energy to supply my entire rabbitry.

When i raised rabbits when i was a kid , all my rabbits were in outside hutches. I used to hang burlap feed sacks on the outside of the cages and wet them down good and then turn the sprinkler on the hutches several times a day. The burlap holds a lot of water onces you get them soaked down.

Where did you live? Just wondering if this would work in high humidity. Hmmm... cooling like this depends on the evaporation of water, which doesn't happen as much at high humidity. Nuts. Probably wouldn't work well here.

Nope, that is like a homemade "swamp cooler"...won't work that well here at all...

How about freezing water in bowls (with lids) and then removing the ice from the bowl to put in the cage? That way, they have the ice and can lay near it or eat it if they want without ingesting plastic?

I have been trying to think of foods that could be frozen for them and not turn to mush when they melt. Bananas, watermelon, maybe apple... the problem is all I've come up with is fruit, so not something we can feed daily. Ideas?

I like that, but as the ice melts it's going to get into the trays, and they water urine mix from the crocks is a great place for flies to breed, which is a big problem now. Smells like a cesspool. I'm trying to work out a place for an auto waterer to eliminate the water in the trays.

__________ Fri Jun 01, 2012 11:45 am __________

If you used terra cotta plant pots and soaked them overnight? Then the buns can't eat them

I saw terra cotta tiles at home depot. I'm going to try that today.
