I'm not a doughnut fan either. Yet I swear their timbits are addictive. ADDICTIVE. I liiiike them.

Dangit you guys, now I want timbits. THANKS A LOT. Random food cravings suck.

You at least live in a state that has them. I would have to drive six to seven hours to get to the closest one from me.

Is this where I don't admit to having 4 tim's in my town, the closet one being a 15 minute walk away?

__________ Fri Jun 21, 2013 12:19 am __________

That's the problem I have with it. They say animals should be free to live naturally.
This is EXACTLY it! They TOTALLY believe that the animals would be much happier and better off if they were allowed to go completely feral, and no amount of "my animals exploit ME" silliness will convince them otherwise.

Oh, and I completely understand where they're coming from... better to fight for your life, not know where your next meal comes from and be free of human trappings than to be loved, treated like a family member and fed food in a crystal bowl. (not lying, my dog has fancy crystal dessert dishes for his dinner...)

Hmmm,
how bout this, I keep my animals
and they go live in the bushes and fight bears for their next meal???

Funny, I'm all for this, I FINALLY understand ARA's
they're just the usual hypocrites...

I have never had a timbit, but they CANNOT POSSIBLY be better than a fresh, hot beignet, sprinkled with powdered sugar, enjoyed with a hot cup of cafe au lait, sitting at Cafe du Monde, watching the sun rise over the French Quarter.....

Am I right, Miss M? :)

Oh, man... you should not have done that to me... Must... have....... beignets.......... :p

Oh, I have GOT to go to Cafe du Monde again! :bouncy: I haven't been there in AGES!

__________ Fri Jun 21, 2013 8:57 am __________

We have some smaller, similar places in town. Not as good as Cafe du Monde, and not the awesome atmosphere and surroundings of Cafe du Monde, but when you must have a beignet, and can't drive all the way to New Orleans for it, it's a reasonable substitute. Better than no beignets at all. :p

OAF, I was just doing fine sitting here drinking my coffee until you brought beignets up. :) I am not a big fan of New Orleans but Cafe du Monde on Saturday or Sunday morning is a great place to be.

Me neither, even though I was born there, but not much beats coffee and beignets from Cafe du Monde!

OAF. :frypan: YOU ARE TORTURING ME

Ohhhh come onn. There goes my Diabetic diet, I'm doomed lol. Looks like I'm sneaking a trip to the doughnut shop down the road and stuffing my face before I go home. Shhhhhh don't tell! :x

Same here, but looking around at the architecture and trees while eating beignets is pretty awesome. :)

There used to be this wonderful restaurant hidden away on some forgotten street, almost completely invisible (passed it several times before finally deciding to turn down the driveway to see if it could be down there), called Visco's. It was actually quite large, with a beautiful courtyard. It was recommended by family in Metairie, so my grandmother and I went there while my grandfather was in a physical therapy center in New Orleans. Oh my word, was that good!

Then there was this door in the middle of a brick wall on a side street near the French Quarter. Open it up, and it was a restaurant with an old, slightly elevated stage and a live jazz band. There was great food there, too... can't remember the name.

When I was in the math club in High School, I landed in the regional math competition, held at the Hyatt Regency. Walked down Bourbon Street to get lunch at McDonalds. It's rather normal in the daytime, but I don't recommend it at night. :?

All in all, it's a nice place to visit (in certain areas), but I wouldn't want to live very close to New Orleans. Or at least it used to be... man, it's been some 25 years since the last time I was there.

__________ Fri Jun 21, 2013 12:54 pm __________

From a review:

No longer the quaint, charming Café Du Monde I remember from my last visit twenty plus years ago. It is a production. And you will not get "Hi my name is Mitzi and I'll be your server" graciousness. And, (gasp!) Styrofoam cups for a large Café Au Lait unless you want to spring for a $6.95 mug.

That's a shame. Sounds like it's not the same anymore. :(

My little dog is like a caricature of a dog...she would last all of a day before becoming lunch for a larger predator. As is I worry about birds of prey...a three-pound dog with a limp might look like a snack to a hawk or eagle!!!

Without their human slave, they would suffer and die. Is that really "better" than being "exploited," and having their every need met and exceeded? I cannot imagine betraying them by making them try to be "wild and free"...IMO, turning them loose would be far more cruel.

As I sit here on a rainy day serving as a nap pillow for one of my dogs...

It is not uncommon around here for small dogs (say, under 15 pounds) to be snatched up by Red-tailed Hawks. Last year, a tourist's dog got snatched up, carried a couple miles and dropped in a wooded area. The dog actually survived to tell about it!

you all are too silly as I'm sitting here contemplating doing donuts for supper.... maybe I'll just do a whack of timbits instead...the lad will like that. :)

I have been in the last couple of years and it wasn't like that....
