so if you were to start there how would you proceed?

Go? Ummmm????????????? Please please please don't leave!!! I have really enjoyed your help very much!!!

__________ Fri Aug 10, 2012 4:10 pm __________

I am so confused!!!

AT LAST! Some pictures

This is Honey and I think who ever said she might be a broken harlequin is right. Please forgive the yellow staining though, its NOT her normal color on her sides, its what her buck likes her to look like. :x

And this is her with her latest litter. She had a true black for the first time and the all white one with a little tiny bit of color on its ear is a new color for her too.

She is a rainbow maker and its always such fun to see what she comes up with.

But is it normal for each litter to have at least one or two dead ones? Or one that fails to thrive and dies? Or, in her last litter there was one who made it to 8 weeks but had oddly formed genitals and died?

We get all of the above with her and my mutt buck Bowler.

My thought was "What a neat color! Rusty orange with scattered black spots!"

What a fun litter! I wouldn't have thought such variety could come out of a pairing. :p

I commonly have one or two dead ones in the first couple of days. It seems that after the first couple of litters most of the does do better though.

The malformed genitalia would concern me though. It may have been a one time thing, but if it keeps occurring, I would try to determine if it is the buck or the doe that is responsible for it, and cull the culprit.

My cunning plan has now been revealed! I didnt say it was hard for ME, its hard to get them away from the kids! But if I have lots of them they might not notice them going missing

Disney, the moving graphic you add to your posts, is distracting. What is it?

A random gif animation with the faces of the 2 anime characters and meme-faces.
But i won't 'distract' anyone here anymore, i'm leaving.

HUH ? You can't leave now I just got here and new to rabbits a month ago.

I can understand your colors better than anything else I read .. darn it !!!

I look forward to your answers on colors.

Will you follow my blog at least and continue to help me with my color goals for John and Jane, Please ?

Those are real nice colors GBov.

I need to get a few new pictures as we are now another generation tward the goal.

Honey's daughter Tiger had a litter of five red kits three weeks ago and two at least are going to be harlies :D

And its time to breed Honey again, last time she had a singleton but as it is a broken red, no complaints from me!

I'm glad your project is turning out well. My tri color project is at a stand still, I might have to get you to mail me a bunny.

Oh dear Sky, what has happened? And I would love to mail you a bunny but this lot is looking a bit odd. I have my fingers crossed that they improve but I realized something, I have never really LOOKED at any of my harlies at this stage and I look at these ones LOTS but I cant remember what the past ones have even looked like at this age

How old are they? Pics? I have a nice blue Harli that is a rex and another is a rex cross, Plus a magpie rex. :)
Maybe I will have to take a road trip to Ohio sometime this year and bring you a harli rex Sky. :)

Sorry GBov you are to far for a quick road trip. But if your ever up this way, I would be happy to share a harli rex kit or two with you too. :)

Nope. We messaged a few times but that was it. Disney and Sky were awesome helping me figure out genetics. I would never have gotten the harli gene if it werent for them. Sky is now my go to for genetics. :D

I wasn't able to read most of this thread, just the original post and the last few, but I wanted to point out that Harlequins are a commercial type breed anyways. A Harlequin colored New Zealand would essentially just be a big Harlequin. If you want Harlies, I'd just get Harlies.

kind of my take on it, but I'm thinking harlies being in short supply was the main problem. The harlie gene is so rare in Rex that I seriously considered breeding in another breed to get the gene in my herd.

Some of my Harlies.

Patches the doe. She is just over a bad abscess so we havnt bred her yet.

Stripes is our young buck.

Tiger with her kits. They are half New Zealand Red. She had a hard time at first with them as she had them on the wire, in the wrong cage, and we had to catch each one as she had them and put them to safety into a cage with baby saver wire. It took her till the next day, with me holding her in the nest box, to realize they were hers to take care of. She is now a SUPER mum.

Same kits, different direction.

Wondering about just giving up on this line all-to-gether or trying to get it into my rex instead. The red NZ buck made for very washed out looking harlies. But unless they are "for" something, its hard to justifiy the feed for all of them
