Cleaning and mucking in the winter-How do you guys do it?

We use the mortar tubs and love them. I don't know how well they hold up to sunlight. They are made of fairly thick plastic. Ours slide well even over grass.

Is DE safe to use on a nursing mama with newborn kits?

We only used the DE once and it cleared up. Does did not have kits. I don't think it would be a problem though.

    Skinny doe

I am so happy :D :D :D !!!! I just had to let everybody know that Sadie is eating well. We are giving her pretty well all the grass hay she wants, some alfalfa hay, and a grain mixture of 2 parts feedstore rolled oats, 4 parts old fashioned oatmeal, 2 parts feedstore rolled barley, and 2...

Buck with sore hock what to do

I had a doe with sore hocks. Folks here were a big help. Very long toenails can cause sore hocks. Just trimming them helped a lot. We covered the front half of her cage with a paper grocery bag so she could get some comfort when she ate and drank. We gave her apple branches to chew on and...

Age to first breed does and what age to end

What age would be best to first breed California does? Is the first breeding based on age or some other factor like weight? Our buns were born on Oct. 6th, 2013 and we aren't planning on breeding them until it warms up anyway which will be around March. I thought I read somewhere that 6...

Rabbit Food Questions - I still feel lost here

We have a Wal-Mart and TSC here as well as a few feed mills in the area, pet stores, and Rural King. Between TSC and Wal-Mart, our TSC carries better feed and the one I liked the best from reading the guaranteed analysis and ingreients at TSC was Manna Pro, but that is just my OPINION. Make...

    Cages? Feeder? Hay?

A rabbit in a completely solid bottom cage would drive me nuts trying to keep it clean. You can build cages yourself or do an internet search for suppliers. Finding a show or an event near you would allow you to see the cages and you wouldn’t have to pay shipping if a vendor was there. Vendors...

    Abscesses?

I'm on break at work. Haven't had time to read up on pasturella. I am understanding correctly that we could treat with antibiotics but the rabbit would remain an carrier and the disease could flare if the rabbit becomes stressed? I certainly don't want to put our other rabbits at risk and...

    Abscesses?

Currently, she is in a hutch that has hardware cloth ? 1/4 inch square between the holes. I don't think she could have been bitten through it. How far away should she be from other rabbits? We are considering culling her anyway. She was giving her babies the 'evil' eye and they were...

    Abscesses?

Thanks everyone. :) I have drained abscesses before in dogs and cats and the drainage was thinner, foul smelling, and was yellow/brown/tan. I was using an 18 gauge needle and this stuff was so thick, it nearly clogged the needle. I figured I could just pull it out in a syringe, but that wasn't...

    Abscesses?

Just got in the house. I noticed a lump near the base of the tail on one of our does, Kari. It was a smaller than a golf ball and felt softer than a foam/latex ball. I stuck a needle in it a few times and expressed thick, off-white drainage from it the consistency of icing or glue...

Crocs that attach to the bottom of the cage

The Lixit bowls I have seen lock into a holder. I tried to lock them into floor, but they aren't flat on the bottom. I have never seen bird baths that are like that. If I ever can't get these bowls, I'll have to look into that. Yeah, these are pretty thick. Thanks!

    Attending our first rabbit show!

The fact that we essentially don't have any empty cages and we are new to rabbits I think is what kept us from bringing any rabbits home, LOL! Seriously though, I am going to have to lower my standards though if we get too many more rabbits. I don't want to get so many that all we have time...

Crocs that attach to the bottom of the cage

Update here. Happy to report that KD cage is still in business. Phone number is 765-332-2678. They are located in New Castle, Indiana. Website is no longer active and I am pretty sure the 800 number isn't either. Crocks are called Quick Locks. The 20oz. size is what we use for water. The...

    Hanging vs. Stacked Cages

Thank you so much for the end picture!!! It helps me understand it much better. It's late here and I need to head to bed. Will comment more another time.

    Hanging vs. Stacked Cages

Thanks for the pics! When you get time, would you mind getting one from the end/side and/or a backside view? Your bunnies look very happy!

    Weaning Babies

Thank you for such an interesting reply! 8-) I have solid pieces of glass, glass cutting boards and a couple of plastic cutting boards that I rotate in the cages. It depends on my cleaning schedule to what gets put in the cages. I also put a piece of cardboard in the cages too (primarily to...

    Papaya Enzyme

Sorry for not replying sooner. I read somewhere that the dried pineapple and dried papaya didn't contain the enzyme that the dehydration process destroyed it. When we would get a fresh pineapple, we gave pieces of the core to the rabbits. I appreciate everyone taking the time to respond and...

    Hanging vs. Stacked Cages

Bobqdevon, I look forward to seeing pictures. I am trying figure out how far out from the wall the cages would have to sit to make room for the gutter. Grumpy, Tell me about your trays. What are they made of? I like how they are attached to the cage. I would love to have more space. Do you...
