BEW Beverens

Ah, the call of the heritage breeds ;) I'm looking for a couple of unrelated does out here in Colorado. I have transport from Utah/Nevada next month. Would anyone have any, or know of anyone who does?

ISO Black American Doe at OSBRA

Unfortunately, my arrangements to acquire a black American doe have fallen through. Might anyone have one available at the Ohio Mini Convention next month?

    Saved kits

Hi All. I really could use some advice. This afternoon, my NZ doe had 8 kits...7 icy cold in the box and when I found her, she was eating one. While she pulled enough fur, she hadn't covered them up. I've got them all warm and squirmy now...well lost the smallest, but the others seem fairly...

    Bloomington IL show March 23

Is anyone attending who might have an American blue doe for sale? I can actually arrange transport from this one, so I'm hoping! Or any Beverens...hoping to get into those as well. Thanks! Mickey

    Getting started with genetics

I'm working on trying to breed/improve some heritage breeds: SF, American and Beveren, but I'm woefully ignorant about genetics and the genotypes I see written out are like Greek to me. Any advice on where to start...really from the ground floor? Thanks Mickey

    Indoor Set ups

The buns are fine, but we're getting sick of frozen water and trudging through snow, rain and/or mud to take care of them :( So, the plan is to move them into our (unheated) garage before next winter. I'd love to have a bunny barn instead, but it's just not feasible for us. We can easily...

    The joys of giving in!

Attended a show on Saturday and went...er....bunny wild! Came home with 3, plus one we'd picked up on Wed for an exhibitor, so 4 new buns in QT just now. Also have 2 more on the way in a couple weeks. Wed's acquisition is a gorgeous broken black Sr NZ doe. She's already had 2 10+ litters...

    Breed opinions?

At present, I have some mutts which will go to freezer camp as soon as we have weather decent enough for it. I have a purebred SF buck and doe. Last night, I brought home a gorgeous broken black NZ proven doe. I intend to breed both does to the SF buck once the new girl is out of QT...a...

    Too Fat?

I plan to breed in about 6 weeks or so, and am wondering if my doe is too fat. How do I tell? She's a mature SF and has a huge dewlap, but that's to be expected. I can feel her spine and where the ribs attach to it without "digging" into flesh...it's not what I'd call prominent but it's...

    Meat mutts or...?

For those of you who raise meaties...do you stick with a breed, or just get what you can and breed? I'm in a bit of a quandary and not sure which way to go from here. I started with a trio of SF. Lost one of my does and the other had a litter of 3, 2 of which survived...a buck and a doe...

    Bittersweet

My first 2 babies have just left home :( They were from my first successful litter back in June. I thought I had a black and a blue doe...turns out it was a black buck and a blue doe....oops! I didn't need another buck and am wanting to keep both of my breeding does as black (the buck is a...

    Popping Popples

Hi all. I've been absent for a while..."farming" has been keeping us pretty busy. Season's pretty much over now so I hope to be around more often. I've missed y'all! We have SF...I wanted to go with a heritage breed, and they were available locally. We started with a trio and bred the two...

    Breeding advice, anyone?

Hoping to pick your brains on this one. We started with a trio of Silver Fox, and bred both does in late May. One died during kindling :( and the other had 3, one of which didn't make it. At present we have a SF buck, the SF doe Mama and 2 month old kits that I believe are both does. Mama...

    Weigh In

Our SF kits were born June 24. I didn't weigh them although I should have. Today, at 13 days of age, the blue is 8.3 oz and the black is 9.2. Growing like weeds, they are!

    Calcium Drench

I stopped at the feed store to get some for my Mama bunny and they asked "what kind". Apparently they have several different ones. Can anyone point me toward the appropriate one?

    Sexing Kits

So, I checked all the stickies you wonderful folks have posted and had a look at my not-quite 2 week old kits. If I understood explanations and photos correctly, I think I have 2 little girls! Their little openings together look like a solid figure 8 with virtually no space between. I'm...

What a difference a day makes

Yesterday I was so upset...went out to check on the bunnies and found 2 dead kits on the wire and a dead doe in the nest box. I truly don't know what happened...she hadn't pulled any fur. I was bummed and feeling guilty all day. This morning, I find her sister in her nest box with a perfect...

    First time!

We acquired a couple "mutt" does a few weeks back..they were free and I was hoping to be able to breed them, but turns out they're only half the size of our buck and they're twice as old (1 yr). We really weren't looking for pets and the smaller of the two was a real shrew...boxing, thumping...

    Yogurt

Apologies if this has been addressed, but I couldn't find anything...would it be okay to feed my buns a bit of yogurt, or would there be digestive issues from the lactic acid?

__________ Sun Feb 24, 2013 6:39 pm __________

Anyone?

    Behavior Interpretation

My 2 SF does, who are littermates, were kindled in October. I'd give the exact date but I cleaned my desk and now I can't find anything! I think it was about the middle of the month or so. So that puts them at right about 4 months old. While the rabbitry is being built, we have them sharing a...
