    Bald spots?

Any one got any ideas on bald butts? I'm not sure if maybe she or a neighbor is pulling it out. I saw a small tuft of fur in her cage a few days ago but this is a large area and there is no fur in or under the cage. Do you think she is eating it? And why would a rabbit do that?

    Bald spots?

It may be fur mites..try a treatment with D.E. I have a doe like this too and I treated her three days ago the fur is back. :) I am going to piggy back on here though..I have a 20 week old doe who had developed a bare butt...tail too. doesn't appear to be mites.I don't think it's hutch burn...

    Wonder what's going to happen.

I don't think it is your problem either...but it could become your problem if he wants to "exchange" the rabbit in a month or so when he finds out that he got the wrong sex. Unless you process it right away you could bring some unknown disease into your barn. Not that you would owe him an...

I also would like to send my sympathy on your families loss and losses...He is home now and in the loving arms of his beloved Ruth...I know he will be greatly missed by the ones left behind. At times like this it is not easy to be strong...Jimmy sounds like a fine, strong, moral, and loving...

    Hi :)

Cute bunny and you can't beat free....I would not try to house two unaltered rabbits together unless they were of the same litter and had been together from birth..but I am sure others would. Maybe a colony type set up? anyway congratulations on the new girl she should make pretty babies with...

    removing kits

As far as I know the milk should dry up about a week prior to the new birth..the milk has different properties for new born than for older kits.. The doe should be weening them at about this time too..she should be trying to get them on more solids, and won't be letting them nurse as much even...

allergy ball 2- successful solid food

I have used warm salt water for mild eye gunk..salt has an anti-bacterial property. in the days before antibiotics that was what people used. You may have to do it every few hours, but sense you are bottle feeding anyway feeding time would be good.. :) it will get you by anyway, if it is still...

    Waterbottles?

This is what I use..love them no leaks..only issue I have is stuff wanting to grow not only in the bottle but in the top as well..have extras on hand so when you do a cleaning you can do a few at a time. A nipple brush (baby bottle type :D ) works well on the tops but I clean the bottle with...

    Favorite reasons for keeping rabbits?

Bunny therapy, when I am stressed or starting to get grumpy with the grand boys nothing beats holding a bunny..even my great big F.G. is such a love..How can you NOT relax with 16 lbs of bunny resting on your shoulder.??Yep I would spend all day with the buns if I had to time. When the kids go...

Rabbits suddenly dying after neighbor watched them!

My first thought is mold...check the hay, check the chicken hay too..the neighbor may have used some of the chicken hay thinking it was fresher...If there are any bad weeds in it that may be the problem..the symptoms sound kind of like poisoning. Maybe check for insect bites as well :?: ...

    The first of many

Stock is super simple..put all the bones in a large pot cover with water. simmer on low for several hours, keeping the water level at around 2 quarts up to a gallon depending on how many bones you have, and how strong of a taste you want.If the flavor is not strong enough let it cook down...

    rabbit and rice salad

The only reason I write down a recipe is for other people..the joke around here is " I am glad you liked it, now lets see if I can make it again.." In her "recipe" the oil and lemon juice should prevent and drying out of the rice...If you are having plain cooked rice dry out try storing...

    The first of many

I suppose that even resting is not absolutely necessary..I allow my meat to pass through rigor...taking about 4 days. For me it improves the texture and the flavor. I have read on this forum that some insist it is a waste of time so..I guess it is a personal preference.. Yesterday I processed 2...

    The first of many

You do not have to soak rabbit meat..I just put it in a zip lock to keep it from drying out and let it rest for four days..butcher day is day one ,on day four I vacuum seal and put in the freezer.. Nice job ..looks delish.. :dinner:

    Mama-to-be is digging... Good sign?

The digging and pushing the hay into the corners is perfect nesting behavior, a couple of my does will build a tunnel...You will see some pretty interesting construction going on. I put the nest box on top of a cardboard panel instead of a liner, for me it is easier to change out when the little...

    Post birth, red urine?

Funugreek. ..blue cohash..or maybe just try tums? All will stimulate contractions.. Momma will be upset, looking for her little ones..but she will calm down.. you can also breed her...that has its own risks though...if she doesn't have anything in there she will be having more kits on 31 days....
