How much do you pay for feed? --per mods: NO POLITICS IN THIS THREAD.

Washington state, I get it from a local feed mill. I don't think they deliver/supply anywhere outside the state, unless maybe specialty ordered, but that would probably be supper expensive.

    Days of gestation

I remember one that took 35 days. But given that every other litter of hers (and of all my other does) kindle on day 30-31 I may have just had my day count off 😅

How much do you pay for feed? --per mods: NO POLITICS IN THIS THREAD.

Just did a feed run yesterday. 16% is $19.55 per 50lb bag; $21.56 after tax. That gives a total of $86.24 per feed run, which right now I believe is about once every 1.5 months. What we Feed

Your thoughts for a meat herd?

Earlier this years I went from feeding 18% herd wide to 16% herd wide and there was no affect. Bucks, does, grow outs, elders, pets, etc. are all doing just the same as when they were on 18%. I did this to try and fix overly fatty grow outs. I have yet to process any, though I hopefully am...

    Palpate / preg-checking does?

I palpate after day 16, days 14-15 the kits are most fragile and before that you really can’t feel anything. Place your hand in-between the back hips behind the bulge of the stomach and massage, do not be afraid to really feel and squish around. If done right you should feel grape like lumps...

Is the “House Rabbit” diet Reputable?

I agree with everything you said, like I said I’m very hesitant to follow any information they give out. I honestly hate the house Rabbit society and their cultish followers, mostly because of the “my way is the rich and only way” attitude they have. Especially a certain “bunny influencer”...

Is the “House Rabbit” diet Reputable?

I currently feed an all pellet diet and I am happy with it, I’ve never had problems with GI issues and the rabbits are full of energy, seem happy, and most live till about 6-8+ (which from what I’ve read is pretty good for outdoor large breeds). However, I have been wanting to experiment with...

Meet Floppy (aka the real chungus)

I am pleased to say that Floppy has gotten her weight down and is now 11.5 pounds. This also means that I am able to breed her, which i plan on doing today after school. I wanted to breed her to Keith, which I tried yesterday, but he was both too small to get a good mount and didn't have much...

    Odd shaped stool

This doesnt look to abnormal to me, it does look a little large for a rabbit of that breeds size though. Over all I wouldn't be concerned about it. However, I would transition him to an adult food/diet and see if that helps. 4 months is about the time I start transitioning to an adult diet (for...

    Super mix- added supplements?

You can use mashed banana and/or boiled carrot. Mix it until it forms a crumbly bread dough like consistency. Form into shapes no more than 1/4" thick (make sure they are well packed,) then bake low and slow. 200f for about an 30mins-1hr should work, just keep an eye on it. Your are wanting to...

How to age rabbit in the fridge after butchering - dry or wet?

As far as I know, yes. Most of the time we do use the instant pot or slow cooker to cook them, but we have baked and pan fried a few and the texture is mostly the same ether way.

How to age rabbit in the fridge after butchering - dry or wet?

I don’t fridge mine at all. I use a two bucket method when butchering. Right after they are dressed they go into a bucket of ice water, once the next one is ready to be put in the ice water the first one movers from that bucket into another on. I do that for a second rinse, to free up room in...

Crossbreeding meat rabbits? Yes or no?

I personally have only had one 50/50 (Rex/Californian) cross litter, but I was very pleased with it and plan on having more next year. They grew way faster and they are bulky. I have not yet processed them (I may not with this litter, tbh I’m a little attached to them) but from external feel and...

    Diets for Wool Breeds?

I have been looking into Lion heads and Giant angoras lately, and I don’t think I would mind having one, or even a few. This wouldn’t be for a while of course as I have 0 room for any more animal atm, and I’m still living with my parents and they wouldn’t allow me to have more animals even if we...

    Breeding

Rabbits are easily litter trained so she may have just decided that the nest box is her litter box, I’ve had it happen before as well. Rabbits usually do not pull fur until the day of kindling (30-32) so I wouldn’t start worrying about that yet. Next time you get a new doe I recommend giving...

6 week old kit attacked from under her hutch

She should be fine. Clean it up and put some antibiotic ointment on it. When we first got our beagle she had a tendency of nipping at the little ones toes because they stuck through the wire. One year we had a litter jump out of the box earlier than normal (about two weeks) so there legs...

    Meat rabbit breed of choice

Hmm, I'll have to see what happens with my next cali/rex litter. The fur quality on my current ones is amazing, supper dense and soft, one of them almost looks a little crimped as well.

    Small Upgrades Make Big Differences

I have suggested a few times to my parents that we should expand the doe cages, and they have both agreed. ( the rabbits/equipment is theirs so major changes have to be talked out with them first, but they usually do agree.) However, there was always the set back of “well, we need three litters...

    Rexed Fur Probability?

I have been trying to figure out how exactly the Rexed fur genetics work, and I’ve found some information but nothing definitive enough for me to be satisfied. So, what percentage of Rex do you need for the off spring to start having Rexed fur? For example, I know that a 50/50 cross...

    Almost Full Pedigrees!!!!!!!

I was filling out pedigrees for this years litters when I realized, I almost have complete one for my Californians. This is the first time I’ll have fully pedigreed rabbits 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 Drama you can skip this, or maybe not 😏 I would have full Pedigrees if I actually got the one for “The Donald.”...
