Meat pen breeding requires the rabbits to not be over 10 weeks of age. They must weigh between 3-5 pounds. This is a requirement for 4-H and ARBA sanctioned shows.
Thank you JenerationX ! Later today they will be 8 days old already! The mom is taking superb care of the little ones! I really looked them over last night and they are all developing so nicely - it is going to be hard to choose what to retain!
Miss M - I don't remember how old they were but I believe they were roughly a week old, give or take.
Zass - I think sheep milk may be more rich but I think the big thing was that it is sweeter than goats milk and did not have an odor to it like goats milk does if you have a buck on your farm...
I successfully bottle raised a litter of 5 French Angoras. It was my very first litter I ever had and luckily I was only in high school and not college:). My doe was giving off too much milk and developed mastitis. I had to milk her out each day, give her medicine, apply hot packs to her...
It really depends on the dog. Years ago we had an old English sheepdog who could not be trusted at all with rabbits. Our current one is very sweet towards them and while I would never leave her with one, she has never shown any indication she would turn it into a meal. Our chug, on the other...
Thanks WhWRabbitry! I was really surprised myself:) I had no idea she would have this many. Guess it is a good thing I only bred her as I don't have a lot of extra cage space! My other 2 does I bred end of September each had 6, so I was kind of expecting something along that line...;)
Here are some purebred French Angora kits born Christmas day. Mom was supposed to have them on the 23rd but instead had them on the 25th. All 10 of them. Makes total sense now:)
I breed French Angoras, New Zealand Reds, and Satins.
My French Angoras were the breed I initially started with and probably my favorite of the 3. I have been working very hard on breeding for rabbits that as I like to say - are built like a New Zealand and wool like a hybrid. So far I have...
I know, lol! I am a pretty heavy culler and have been very happy with my latest litters. I have been breeding French Angoras for 4 years now and have been working on improving the type and density and it looks like I am heading in the right direction! I have been getting really nice babies...
I am assuming you are looking to spin angora wool on a wheel? I can't tell you much on wheels (I want to get one but don't have one yet) but I use a drop spindle to spin my angora on and it does a fantastic job.
I have heard that using kitten flea powder will do the trick. I've heard Sergeants is a good brand and was told by another rabbit breeder to use it if I ever ran into this issue (which luckily I haven't!). Hope you can resolve this issue soon!
If you have seen sheep's wool you will notice that it has a "zig zag" appearance. This is the crimp in the wool. Angora rabbits also have this and French Angoras are expected to, per the Standard of Perfection.
I might have a good picture of a crimpy coat but I would have to look.
