If you breed a self chin to a self, you will get chins. Only agoutis can produce agoutis. I mean chinchilla chl, not the other genes on the C locus, as sables and the shaded rabbits have a chin gene that is produced with aa. I don't even deal with those genes because they rarely present themselves in Rexe
I don't deal with steel either, because it's a crazy gene, although very pretty.
Well, now i'm confused..
Let me get this clear :?
Chin is only considered as chin when the agouti gene is present and therefor is a true chin?? A_chld
Self chin would be.. fake chin? the chin gene is there but it doesn't count? Ignored?
Self full color x self chin = self chin? I don't get it.. how can chld dominate the C gene?
Please point this out for me.. i don't want to mix anything up. :?
This my view on the C locus
aa_C = Black rabbit (full color gene)
aa_chld = Black looking rabbit (chinchilla dark gene)
aa_chlchl = Seal (has the chl gene 2x whereas Siamese Sable has 1)
aa_chl = Siamese sable (chinchilla light or sable able gene)
ch = Himalayan (Pointed White gene )
c = Rew hiding black (Rew)
When I say chin, I mean chinchilla colored rabbits, and not the entire chin gene series on the C locus. cchd or chld
Self chin is a real chin, but it's not a real self. It's only called self chin because it looks like a self. If it's bred, it will produce chins.
The short answer is that a self chin looks exactly like a black (usually). Genetically, the only difference between a true black and a self chin is that one has the “full color” gene C and that one has the “chinchilla gene,” which we write as cchd.
The chinchilla gene can mess with eye color. It can cause blue, blue-gray or mottled eyes in rabbits that are not dilute otherwise, and brown eyes in dilutes such as squirrels. So if you ever have a self with the wrong eye color, consider self chin. A self chin can be black, blue, chocolate, or lilac — because the brown and dilute genes have nothing to do with making a self chin.

I have a self chin, he was not clack at birth, but grayish, so I knew he was not a self. As he got older, the fur appeared black, but the eyes are blue gray. He is out of a Chinchilla and a REW.
Self chin x full color, produces chin. Since only an agouti can produce chins (chinchilla colored rabbit), then the Self chin is an agouti A_, not a self aa.
Instead of aa__chld, it is A_chldchld_ in the case of chin dark.
Chinchilla A_B_cchdcchd_D_E (or A_B_chldchld_D_E) this is what happens when a chin gene acts on an agouti
Sable, seal, siamese sable, pointed white, is what happens when the chin gene acts on a self aa_

The chin gene needs two pairs to express itself, or one needs to be a REW c gene, so it dominates because the C_ gene is absent.
aa_C_ = Black rabbit (full color gene)
A__chldchld or A_chldc_ = Chin colored rabbit (chinchilla dark gene)
A__chldchld or A_chldc_ = Black looking rabbit (chinchilla dark gene)
aa_chlchl = Seal (has the chl gene 2x whereas Siamese Sable has 1)
aa_chl_(paired with any other lower c locus gene except chld chin dark) = Siamese sable (chinchilla light or sable able gene)
chch or chc = Himalayan (Pointed White gene )
cc = Rew hiding everything, even the almighty agouti series (Rew)
