This woman literally gave me the run around for a rabbit !

I’m so bummed right now!

I was going to pick up a cute blue eyed magpie with pedigree last week

unfortunately my husband had a bad day when I asked him if we could drive 2 and 1/2 hours there and 2 and 1/2 hours back to pick up said rabbit - he said no

one week later - he changes his mind!!! I contact the lady to see if she still has him - she does

we talk from 8 am until 12pm in the afternoon when I finally end up sending her the total cost for the rabbit

She pressed me for payment to reserve him! Until I could pick him up on our planned date!

Thennn says immediately after receiving payment - someone else is interested in coming that day

wait a second . WHUT?!

we planned a date - I already paid you - we’ve spoke the week previous - week spoke alllll morning nonstop - I’m definitely getting the rabbit !

Why would they entertain someone else’s offer to pick up before asking if I could come sooner - AFTER IVE ALREADY PAID FOR THE FRIGGIN RABBIT

EVEN HAD THE AUDACITY TO TRY TO THROW SHADY JABS AT MY HUSBAND ! Saying had I picked him up a week ago he would have already been mine

this was also after I already paid her!

She should have handled that way better!

She offered me 2 other , more expensive rabbits in lieu of the one I wanted and prepaid for ??

That I’m intending on making a 5 hour drive for ! So the rabbits obviously not snake food you psycho!!

anyway she says -
she doesn’t want them to be bred in the future - so why wouldn’t she fix them while they were still her pets before getting rid of them ?? if she intended to dictate their future with a new owner - idk I don’t get it

and sends me photos of 2 of its babies from different doe’s (her words) so he’s obviously be bred before and not on accident with 2 different doe’s

so it ends up the people picked up the rabbit - and she text me they picked the one I didn’t really want

So me I’m like GREAT! I’ll see you later tomorrow!

Even confirmed with her that they took the other one I wasn’t really interested in - I wanted to be clear as she had already sent me too many mixed messages and signals

luckily she sent my mom back

but holy cow! She really took me for a ride on the emotional roller coaster

I feel like she didn’t want to sell the rabbit to me in all honesty - almost as if because I didn’t get him a week ago & wasn’t willing to buy the more expensive one - that I wasn’t going to provide adequate - and honestly *spoiled* - care

which is crazy - but I guess I can understand - you sell you rabbit to whoever you want to sell it to! And if you don’t feel right about it 100% don’t do it! But don’t lead someone on - and give them the run around

she asked for picture of where I was planning on housing him and photos of my yard - only the second time we spoke - and I don’t really feel like she asked that from anyone else but I could be wrong - I just feel it in my heart with how she went in such a crooked line of handling all the things mentioned

I apologized for wasting her time and wished her luck in find her buns furrever home

I truly hope she finds one to meet her standards - because I’ve literally got the same rabbit that I tried to get from the original owner from the second owner - and I’ve seen other rabbits I’ve tried to get before actually getting one - get given to the pounds! I seen the same exact ones someone was giving away for free on pound websites ! It’s ridiculous - why would someone want that? When some one is clearly very interested and willing to prepay for an animal

am I not doing this right?! How do you purchase animals correctly? I thought it was give your honest intentions and interest - it’s not working for me ! Or other Floridians just suck - and I’m native

I’ve bought chickens online but with a invoice from someone who sells them online
Lots of people ask for a partial payment or hold fee - some breeders in my area even offer presale for unborn kits

But honestly you are sooo right! So many flakes and nut jobs - I feel naive now

Lesson learned:
ONLY going to prepay to reputable breeders/businesses and Only get Craigslist bunnies for free ! from now on !

Be patient. At the end of the day, there are too many nice rabbits sold by nice people in the world to put up with less. You do not have to choose.

I sell rabbits on craigslist. I will not take payment for the rabbit until they see it. I have had people come out, meet the rabbit, pay for it, plus extras for me to keep it for them for a couple weeks (it was a gift for their child's birthday). I would never pay in advance for anything on Craigslist, you never know what you're going to get. What if you showed up and the rabbits were not cared for, or it was sick, or the person was a total fraud. Once you've bought a rabbit from a breeder then you could maybe trust them enough to pay in advance.

i have people give me a downpayment before I drive a bunny to them. I offer it as a way to hold a bunny if they are "but we might not be out for a couple of weeks"....otherwise they take their chances. EMT is easy. I do advise that if they change their mind.... the deposit is forfeit. (and if I forget to tell them that I refund it).

1. I completely agree with that. At the last rabbit show there was a tiny gray baby kit that was no where old enough to be sold
2. My first two rabbits were supposed to be does but then the sex fairy came and they were both bucks

I'm sure your a great person and that you could've given that rabbit a wonderful home. But, sometimes people are just full of ignorance.

I'm sorry it didn't work out for you but I'm glad you got your money back.

I don't like to think the worst of people but this sounds like she is a scammer who was setting you up for a bait and switch from the beginning. She knew you had a 5-hour drive and would probably take whatever rabbit she offered to avoid a wasted trip. She had your money. She spent a lot of time talking with you then wanted photos of your setup which, if her setup is poor or nonexistent, can be used to scam someone else. I'd watch for more ads from her to see if your photos are used.

Sooooo you are so right and I feel sooo naive ! I’m 27 and I don’t technology at all - I don’t care about vanity or keeping up with the Jones

so fast forward to now - I met a 13yo breeder she’s very nice and amazingly knowledgeable for her age - Ive been working with her collaborating on sales , breeding programs and other farm stuff

she recently asked me if I was using her number and photos with a different name listing rabbits she’s sold on some rabbit website .org Ive never even heard of!

it truthfully was not me and we came to conclusion it must be a active scammer so I reposted everywhere

mom just glad that lady gave my money back - I hope if she was really selling bunnies that they found good homes !

just greatful to be able to still save bunnies with inflation - gas prices and feed cost are not friendly for any of us

new doe and Ive never seen a color like this it’s 2 patterns and idk if anyone has seen nearly perfect markings like this - her shape is all wrong - and I don’t have any papers for her - but I wonder if anyone thinks she’s 4H show quality (not many qualifications I know but is she outstanding in color/pattern or is it justtt me?!?!) btw what do you call this color pattern ? Broken otter??

Same ! I have no idea what colors are behind her - she’s supposed to be a Netherlands dwarf but is almost Dutch size
Idk if she will qualify for anything in my area - except really beautiful

Oh man, bad rabbit sellers irritate the fire out of me! I never even ask for a deposit to hold a rabbit for someone. If they say they want it I consider it sold and unavailable until they tell me otherwise. Maybe you could start a new thread asking about her pattern? I have never seen a rabbit that looked like that. I am wondering if she is a booted broken? It is very interesting, so I would like to know what is seems like it would be from others as well.

Ooh yes you are veryyy correct my friend! I will repost to see if anyone else thinks she is of any show quality , I say booted broken too ! Thanks for naming that pattern ! I’ve never know there was a special name I just thought those were always called brokens as well
