I came across some of these the other day at the locally owned feed store. I know that TSC ones in particular aren't desirable and alot of people speak negatively of feed store cages. However I haven't heard anything specific about this brand. I know I should go to Woody's, KW, Bass, Keonig's, or Klubetanz but I can't afford the shipping costs and I can't find anywhere local that sells galvanized after weld wire. I built my first 4 cages from wire I purchased from Lowes but it's china made GBW wire AND it was ridiculously expensive. I found these Pet Lodge cages for cheaper than it would cost to build my own. Obviously cheaper is NOT better but I have a lack of options and am dirt poor. :( Waddaya think about something similar to these? http://www.fleetfarm.com/catalog/pr...ing+search&utm_campaign=google+product search

I think you need to call them and ask for the floor gauge and the wall gauge. Then also ask if its gbw or gaw.

That is pretty cheap and nice looking but I don't know anything about the brand. I would wonder about the gauge of the wire and maybe how the cage is put together. I am using used cages myself because I don't have the money to invest in new ones so I would say you can always try a couple and see how they work.

Yes, do call and check out the details. The floor wire should be 1/2" by 1 inch and should be a heavy gauge. Ask about the grid size and gauge of the walls and top as well and whether it is GBW or GAW.

Once you have the details you will be able to make a decision. I know all about being dirt poor and sometimes having to compromise.

The gauge is definitely something to find out before buying. I can totally relate to not having money, though. Is there something you can sacrifice short-term in order to afford the shipping from Woody's or somewhere else? If not, you may just need to get something like this now, realizing that you may need to replace the floors down the road a bit.

It looks good to me, but I agree with everyone who's already posted. Also, if you do get them, I'd suggest getting a different sort of latch.

Is there a local cage dealer at shows that you could get in touch with?

Thank you for the replies and suggestions!!! The most info I have found on it is the top and sides are 14ga 1"x2" and the bottom is 16ga 1"x1/2". I can't find anywhere if it's GBW or GAW but I checked out one of them at the feed store and the welds seemed shiny. It's for my Calis and I'm concerned 16ga floor wire is too thin. If it's not too bad I will just use and replace the floor wire later. My other concern is that it's only 16" high. I don't want cramped bunnies!

Miss M- you're right, I should get the Woody's cages but I'm just unable to at the moment. :(

Cattle Cait- I don't know if there's show here or not, I'm still real green behind the ears! lol I know there's alot of 4H activity here though so I'll try to find out. Thanks for the heads up!

Where in Texas are you again? There is a place near me that I get my cages from and they are very reasonable....They makes them from 14g double dipped GAW wire.

Check out the American Rabbit Breeders Association website - www.arba.net. That should list all upcoming shows in your state.

haven't been around for a few days--PeT LOdge is also Little Giant-- as in Miller Manufacturing. I have three banks of :pEt LOdge cages-- My Biggest complaint is reaching to the backs of the cages-- obviously because I did not build them-- MIne are about 1 1/2 years old, and doing well as far as the gage of the wire and quality of workmanship is concerned.

Oneacrefarm-pm sent.

CattleCait-thanks, seems to be one coming up here the end of February!

FrostedRabbits-good to hear they hold up ok, do you have larger breeds in them? Do you think Calis can be held comfortably in the 16" high cages?

Frosted, can't remember, but aren't your cages indoors? That may make the difference....

FYI= Since 16ga floor wire isn't the best option for my Calis, not gonna take the risk. I'm going to try someone locally. Thanks everyone for your comments! :)

IN and out-- and the cages are 18 inches high-- suitable for the standard sized meat breeds, NZ, CAl, Am Chin, etc...

I am also looking for a new rabbit cage. What gauge is good for the floor? After reading these comments I looked up Woody's cages. Do these cages have the proper material for rabbits? I am really considering Woody since I like the sizes they offer. The one I like has "Bottom wire 14g. Aluminum coated." Are these sturdy cages?
