A friend of mine had suspected a raccoon or fox when she'd lost some chickens night after night from her coop area, so she set a large live trap. However, in the morning, she discovered it had actually been a large Great Horned Owl . . . which was now very pissed off. LOL

Got the 6 others quartered. Didn't debone, water was being used to fill troughs.

Redid my cage chart. Wanting to cull more out, but need to update charts first to compare.

Sometimes it is hard to even be mad at them--I know it is hard to lose stock, but dang, it is part of living in rural areas to get to see some of these predators in the wild. I draw the line at bears and cougar. Don't eat my kids.

Over on this side of the country we just have black bears, so those aren't an issue either. They'll steal stuff off the porch and get in the trash, but that's about the extent of it.

Been thinking of moving the buns in here since last year. Unused space.
Started to clean it up.
Looks like all of the regular stackers will fit, then I'd have to decide what to do with the odd ones. Some I can piece together to stack, others I might sell to potentially buy a stacker to fit.
Door and wall may flip sides in the end.
But first, I need to find a way to seal up the silo!!
Pigeons fill it with poop, nature fills it with rain & snow. Once sealed, I'll add a little heater to help keep it above freezing so water stays liquid. Like in my previous barn-shed years ago. I hate dealing with frozen water & dragging new water around in winter.

Not sure if I'm doing the math right, but I'm going to switch to 16% vs 18%. I believe this is how much I'll save per order.

I used to buy 20 bags when they were 50# each. Now they're 40#, so I buy 30 bags at a time. But if I switch to 16%, it's sold in 50# bags, so I'll probably go back to 20 bags.

$17.49÷40#=
$0.43725 per pound.

$18.39÷50#=
$0.3678 per pound.

0.43725×50#=
$21.8625 for 50 pounds.

21.8625-18.39=
$3.4725 per bag difference.

Buy 20 bags, save $69.45.
Buy 30 bags, save $104.175.

I seem to buy 3 times a year, roughly. So, yearly savings of either one below.
208.35
312.525

And I'm hoping that I can decide on a few adults to cull out, further reducing costs.

Ordered adjustable water nipples. Not seeing any change in flow. Wtf.
Got clamps as well for the ones that seem to leak at the connection.

Weighed some more litters and removed the lightest ones.

And decided on 2 sisters. This one was worse than the other, so away she goes.

Sexed the other ones.

Trying something with bottles, old leaky sippers and nipples.

And that cute broken otter buck, he bit me, so he chose to be culled. =(
Pelt in freezer, going to try to save the feet.

Attitude gets you nowhere! I have a scar on my arm from a doe, that I paid actual money for, who ended up making a lovely stew. Every time I look at the scar I remember again that there are too many nice bunnies to put up with mean ones.

Everyone is a little witchy today! But no one else bruised or broke skin, so I didn't cull them.
Moved Obscure to cull cage.
Removed Rusty to have a chat with her about attitude and posed her again.
Much nicer!

Something must be freaking everyone out....

Reintroduced Zelda to the rest of the girls. Pretty good representation of my life. Lol
And the other dog fled! Total chaos.

Cute Zero doe kit. The solid black is a buck and biggest, but this one is too cute. Dalie, short for dalmatian.

Hoping to keep this little blue otter buck kit. 🙂
"Wait, this one's still hopping. Can't monch."

Interesting to watch your reporting. I find for myself so much of the value of rabbits doesn't fit on a spread sheet. the bags of questionable composted "manure" (many of which have shown contaminated) I no longér buy pays for feed instead. The vegetables that grew better than ever with rabbit poo, even in a drought year. The weeds and garden trimmings, even corn stalks they turn into perfect useable fertilizer in one day instead of me spending a year turning compost piles (saved hard labor) health benefits of high protein, low cholesterol meat. ( Counting $2 a # not nearly enough). The value of exercise, entertainment, education , and genuine joy of interacting with my colonies, priceless....
I only feed organic pellets that I get from Azure Standard. I refuse to "knowingly" eat GMO's, and won't feed it to my buns. There have been many studies showing health issues, including fertility problems from feeding GMO's to animals. I fretted over the cost of that feed until lately. When you look at the prices of organic or even range raised meat (and the eventuality of MRNA vaxxed meat in our food supply), the cost of those pellets seem to get better. Non GMO, pesticide free and herbicide free manure for my organic garden is a big, big plus.
