Nesting boxes

We are currently building a new hutch for the Angora Bunnies we are getting. Starting with one Doe and one Buck. I was wondering if there was a rule of thumb for the size of the nesting box? I've heard that if it's small then the Doe can get stressed and perhaps kill her babies. This happened to the sister of a friend of mine. But is that because of the size of the nest box or was it perhaps a deficiency in the Doe? He said she ate them. Is this a common occurance?

Thanks Silver Cloud. We were thinking of built in boxes with one side being hinged for access...Do you have thoughts on that?

Some folks like them others don't, some say they are harder to clean but it depends on your setup. We have no opinion on them one way or the other. We use the place in nest boxes mostly but are trying the Sani-Nest by Bass Equipment to see how they do as a permanent wire nest box built in to the floor of our all wire cages. We attached them 2/14/15 and set them up for a nest instead of leaving them as just wire, knowing they shouldn't get the box setup until 3/19/15 to see how they would treat them and to let them get used to it. The does have done great so far making their nest and leaving them alone, We will see . Advice: Just keep it clean for the litters and if they use it as a potty put a door on it to close it off when not in use. IMO - you should use Apple Cider Vinegar in your water 2 tablespoons per gallon to get the health benefits. We wish you the best of luck and you will get all kinds of great advice here from the many great folks who use this site.

Those under cage boxes look like they would be pretty easy to make. Has anybody made their own like that?

Silver Cloud gave you great advice, so I will just add that I would suggest you consider making the bottom of the nest box wire. It will be cleaner for the kits, especially when you're talking about angoras.
