The only reasons Gwaihir The Lord of the Eagles was helping Gandalf in the first place are: (A) They're friends, and (B) Gandalf saved Gwaihir's life, so he promised a favor, and that was bringing The Company of Dwarves to the Carrock (See The Hobbit), the Eagles didn't care about the affairs of men, anyway. For once, Bun, you and I agree.

Riding the eagles to Mordor would've been a bad idea at best and a disastrous one at worst. The Nazgul patrolled the skies of the Black Land almost constantly, and when they weren't, Sauron was always watching. More than likely, Gwaihir would simply have refused. The Eagles never were on Gandalf's "speed dial", anyway. They helped where the need was within their power and interest. The Battle of the Morannon was a last ditch effort for all races of Middle-Earth, so they helped. I could go on.....

The original maker of that meme wasn't paying attention. I know it wasn't you, Funnies. It still drives me nuts.
