No one is the least bit interested in my animals but me. Then again, I am not interested in keeping their kids either.
I love the animals more than I love my freedom, so I will figure out something between now and next October, even if that means I have to take the dogs with me :)

Most people travel with other rabbit people and share hotels so the cost can end up being cut in half and in some cases even in quarters. Most people serious about showing have convention funds where they save up money all year specifically to go to convention. I know people who have bank accounts just for rabbit money (I certainly do). Each paycheque I'll normally put $100 into my savings account but because I'm planning on going to convention next year I'm going to split that so $50 goes into my savings and $50 goes into the rabbit account. Any money that comes in from the rabbits first buys feed and needed supplies the leftovers go into the account. Pre-sold animals also pay for the trip. I've even seen people take on temporary part time jobs to help pay to go to convention.

If you budget right all year anyone can go. When we went to Kentucky we rented a Cabin which was waaay cheaper than renting a hotel room. It had a kitchen so we could go to the grocery store and make our own food cheaper than eating out. You can even look into at staying in hostels. From what we've learned the best travel stories never happen in fancy hotels.

As for the dogs and cats and other rabbits my dad usually looks after them while we're away. He never comes along with us.

I'm going to start taking a part time job the next year and a half to pay for my Mt Mckinley climb in 2014, so I can relate to that one. That kind of extra work I do is easier than regular work to me because I can visualize where every dime that I'm earning is going to, and how worth it is to work towards that. Also, because I know it's only temporary :D

Still haven't figured out how they get that time off of work.

Are a lot of exhibitors retired? Most of the folks I know that show dogs are either retired or they are stay at home moms. With dogs it's easier because you don't even have to be there, dogs got o live with their handlers frequently.

Aside from stay at home parents and work from home people, the majority of my friends and family get about 4 to 5 weeks paid vacation a year. So I don't see how this is so confusing to think they can't take that time off of work. My wife gets about 6 weeks. Heck, even working at UPS when I was in college I was at four weeks paid after 4 years on the job.

I get 2 weeks paid vacation time a year and instead of getting time and a half on holidays we get Lui days, days we can take off and get paid for.

I wouldn't want to spend two weeks at home so I'll use it to go to convention or somewhere nice.

I've never worked anywhere but a school, and we don't chose our vacations, so I have no idea how it works. Our vacation days are 10 per year and they do not accrue if not taken. My mom was a stay at home mom/clergy and my dad is a blue collar plant worker, so he doesn't get 4-5 weeks paid vacation, and if he does he's never taken more than a day off or two for things like funerals.
