My doe lets complete STRANGERS look in their nest. But that doe did grunt when we tried to pet her. She is weird.

Yes, they can be built, but if your doe is "haystaching" after day 21 then she IS pregnant. My doe looked pregnant too, turns out she was not. Have you tried feeling in their for little sausages?

Oh, I did not realize that 'staches after Day 21 were definitely pregnant... good to know! I've tried feeling on day 20 something, and after a lot of tries I thought I felt some little grape-like things. But, that was my first time attempting to palpate so I really was guessing. :)

She hasn't kindled yet... I can't wait!! It's kinda funny though, cause I'm probably not going to keep any of them. But I'm still excited!!

If you just put your hands on both sides of her stomach, with a teensy bit of fiddling you should be able to feel sausages, or kicking, on both sides very easily. :) That is always the fun part. By Day 20 they shouldn't be grape sized, they would be about the size of a thing of chapstick. Feeling for babies around Day 31 is my favorite part. I get very excited annd can't wait to see what colors, genders, and how many are in there!

:D I'm so excited I've been checking 3 or 4 or 5 times a day... :)
OK- I tried feeling for babies, but it was harder than I thought. First of all, I couldn't get her to move out of her smaller hutch without making her mad, which meant that it was harder for me to feel her sides. And then she didn't like me feeling her sides unless I petted her forehead... It's hard to multitask ;) Then I realized that I was feeling her ribs, not her belly... After I felt her belly briefly, she scrunched up so I couldn't really get to her belly. BUT- (this sounds awkward...) I did feel her teats, I think. I felt a small, kind of fleshy, bump on either side of her belly (then she glared at me and scrunched up). So, that means that her milk is coming in... which means kits, right? :D

okay I have a tiny bit of advice..but it will be the hardest to follow. I have two rabbits 5 days late and I was worried so I was checking a lot...so I stopped. Friend said they thought I was making the rabbit nervous..and seems he was right. It is always hard when you can't wait to see the new little ones but I think its like watching a pot of water boil...only this pot (the bunny) can choose not to boil just because your watching. If you normally only check on the rabbits once or twice a day the constant checking could be making her nervous for no reason other then its a disruption of the routine. I know at least twice rabbits have gone long enough her for me to think ok maybe they didn't take..so I will stop watching them so much then suddenly little squirmers. though I know that is the hardest thing in the world to do :p

Hahaha, ok I will try that. Yeah, I did notice that, although she layed down all relaxed and wanted her forehead petted, as soon as I was done she sat up and started grooming, or hopped away. OK, I can do this... only once or twice a day. That's it. I CAN do this...

just have to find an effective way to distract yourself...granted when expecting new hoppers its hard to get distracted...@.@

Wildwolf I feed/check mine twice a day so they expect me twice a day. I just got done with my evening feeding, my does usually have their kits early morning but this last litter it was this time in the evening. It was funny too because I walked up and she was frantically pulling fur and jumped into the box like it hit her all of a sudden but she looked like she was saying "OMG! I forgot!!!!" 30 minutes later I was counting babies! She had 10 again. All still doing good on day 35.
If I'm worried about a new mom I'll go out a third time at midday with a favorite treat. They love that.
Got my fingers crossed that early tommorrow morning ..... :D

I can't wait!! I'm hoping for early tomorrow morning too- before 8, cause that's around the time I end my rabbit chores.
I found a distraction: I think I just found torted harlequin Rex rabbits on cragislist... and that means I can start my tri color Rex rabbit breeding (if they are what I think they are. They're advertised as torts)!!

__________ Mon Jul 15, 2013 6:51 pm __________

Today is Day 37, by the way.

OMG 37 daYS!!!!! I think thats the longest ive heard of!!!!///maybe she had invisible kits lol...yeah i know NOT FUNNY....anyway goodluck!!

I'm going to make you annoyed most likely, but I can feel teats on my does when they aren't pregnant. That is what I thought, but that doe never kindled and I know I could feel her teats. If I want to feel babies, I do so on Day 31 and just simply lay my hands on their sides. Sometimes I don't feel kicking, sometimes I do. When they lie on their sides past day 31 I can ALWAYS see kicking. I see movement/kicking right where th leg attaches to their body. That extra falbby skin that makes the leg attach. Hope that makes since. :)

I don't know if MSD told you, but that rabbit actually didn't wait until day 41... or whatever 40 number it was lol. It was day 35. I have never heard of one going past Day 35, but that does not mean that I would take the nest box out, of course!

I've never felt the teats before...Yeah I saw that it was actually Day 35... :(
I will feel/look at her sides when she lays down tomorrow. Though hopefully there will be kits in the nestbox... :( I hope she does have kits- she built a beautiful nest, she acts moody, and she was covered successfully 5 dang times!! :(

:pullhair: I felt the same way waiting for my doe to kindle 2 weeks ago.. I was so upset when she didnt.... I guess bucks could go sterile with the heat.. My doe was covered 7 times!!...i now have 2 (hopefully bred) does hopefully 2nd times a charm for me lol...

I hope yours are bred! :)
yeah, it has been hot- but it's been more humid than hot. OH NO, I just remembered-- when we got Quasar (my buckling came from the same rabbitry that we bred Ink Blot at), Quasar was in tiny itsy bitsy minor heat distress (droopy ear tips. he recovered with 2 days in my outdoors rabbitry)... and we bred Ink Blot only a week after getting Quasar... but the rabbits didn't look like they were overheated when we bred them... awwwwwwwwww :( I really really hope that there's kits in the morning...

I will tell you, they throw butter knives at you sometimes. They make you just worried enough to where you freak, and then they end up kindling so it's fine. BUT, they also have some seriously rude tricks.

ETA: Oh, well my rabbits were in no heat distress AT ALL, but it was a little hot, doe was covered about 11 times, didn't take. I am not breeding until late August, gives time for flea/mite treating and bucks time to recooperate.. :)

I think the longest I have heard someone claim to have waited themselves was 38 days 9with the litter being born ok that is...heard of longer but not successful litters)...have heard people talk about others waiting a bit longer but wasn't their experience...so there is still hope. I had two have them at day 35 recently...one its the second time in a row..so might be her normal time frame @.@ if 35 days can be normal for a doe then a few days past that can be a bit late for a stubborn one :)

Well, no kits. Today is Day 38...
I tried to feel her belly- she didn't like it, but I managed to gently place my hand under her. I couldn't probe or she'd get mad and hop away... But I didn't feel any kicking. Do you have to probe in order to feel the kits?
:( I'm starting to think that she's not pregnant...I'm leaving the nest in there, just in case, until next weekend. After all, she's not soiling it or anything. I really really hope she's pregnant. I'm not going to do extra checks today- I hope that will get her to give birth.
Is it possible that she aborted her kits after making the nest? There was a loose dog in our backyard, barking at a nesting turtle, the other day. Maybe that scared her?

So, if she isn't pregnant... I'd rebreed her this November (because the other months I'll be busy, but December has a long break in it for me). She'd be a year and 5 months old. Is that too late for a first litter? Even if she was successfully covered (but didn't give birth) before?

I only breed before 1 year. I have to, or their cervix closes and they can't deliver. That is with French Lops, though. I hope this isn't why your doe isn't kindling. She would most likely be stressed by now, though.

You have to keep your hands on her belly and push a little bit. Just like you would feel for babies in anything else. Just not hard at this point.

I suppose it may be possible that she aborted, if she is not used to dogs. Maybe she ate them? She couldn't have absorbed them since she is so late in the pregnancy.

Still hoping for the best!!!
