anyone use a kill board? like a wringer only by cutting a V into a board to use the same way. saw it on a youtube video (pretty sure someone has linked it somewhere on the forum here) and am going to be making one to try.
i've only done a few rabbits so far, all using the broomstick method. works good i just hate all the ick that ya get on the neck that way.

LOL let them out on the lawn and bow hunt them lol

I don't think this would be a very humane way to dispatch rabbits. We aren't killing them for sport, we are dispatching them quickly and humanely, with the least amount of trauma.....

I see you posted that you were kidding, which is fine. BUT, lets all remember that the posts on this board are able to be read by anyone....not just members. That "joke" could be taken all out of context and used against us.... :|
I posted it in regards to doing it in a way that works for you. Every single rabbit I have ever killed is with a bow. And 99.9% they die very very fast. Only one time did I hit a rabit in the wrong place and I have killed a few 100. I dont think of bow hunting rabit as sport most rabits around me let you get only 5 feet away. I never eat or even use the hide I always sold them to a shop in my area. Plus I dont see how using any sorta gun is differnt then shooting them with a arrow.

I did not necessarily mean ANY hunting with a bow, I was pointing out that we need to be careful when discussing dispatching meat rabbits, since our comments can be taken out of context.

Any kind of cervical dislocation is going to cause bleeding and clotting in the neck area, with or without bruising....less if you take the head off right away.

__________ Tue Sep 25, 2012 2:09 pm __________

I prefer not to have anything gun like at the house, not even a water gun.

The Zinger is a "bolt gun"...there is no projectile and it is really is a mis-nomer to call it a "gun". It extends a rod at high speed/pressure, that pierces the skull/brain and is retracted back into the tool.

I've seen it before on the website. Just saying why I'm not interested in using a gun, although it may seem like the most efficient way for most.

I don't have one and wouldn't use it. I just don't personally like it...but that being said....IT ISN'T A GUN!!!    When I was in Basic Training, if any of the guys even whispered "gun", they were made to run around the training yard, rifle held overhead, shouting..."THIS IS MY WEAPON!", *point to crotch*, "THIS IS MY GUN!", *raise rifle overhead*, "THIS IS FOR SHOOTING!", *point to crotch*, "THIS IS FOR FUN!" :2guns: :2guns: :2guns:

They never made the women do that....wonder why? :hmm:

I used to think we needed a 'like' button, now I wonder about a 'laugh' button, too!
Thank You, OAF!

The "Thankpost" button serves multiple purposes! :D

It's the turning them loose and then shooting them rather than a controlled pen that changes it. Dispatch them with a bow if you like but come up with a way to safely contain them in a stress free environment.

LOL, is there a blushing smiley?

I was trying to say my comment was in reference to a different post, not about the Zinger. If I could afford it, I would buy one.

Air Force, Lackland AFB in 1984/1985 - kinda a sparse Christmas, that year. Shipped me off to Lowery in Colorado, then was stationed at Carswell AFB in Ft. Worth.

hm... i was thinking if i was using a kill board it would minimize bruising and mostly it would be on the head and neck part that i was cutting off.
most i've ever done at once is three...
dislocate, cut off head, "string it" (kinda squeeze a bit down the body to empty the blood out of it), hang it,... so pretty much soon as i can pick up my knife and aint any twitchin.

You may not get bruising, but you WILL get bleeding and clotting in the neck area...that usually rinses off though. I use the Wringer, then immediately hang by back feet and pull down on the front feet. This usually stops any twitching that starts. Then I cut off the head and let it drain.

Really? :hmm: However did I get so lucky as to have such a smart Sistah?

I am going to have to try that- the twitching is so disconcerting.

It was kind of an accident, actually, Sistah.... I hung this one and it was flopping so I grabbed the front legs and head and pulled down and held it to try to stop it flopping, which it did. I thought... :hmm: So I tried it on the next one and it worked again.... So now I do it on all of them....

Well, today i had to do a rabbit. My hubby is the one that kills them with a heavy stick and hits them behind the head and they bleed out then i take over. But this time he wasnt home. So i had to do it myself... I new my aim for hitting in that right spot wasnt going to be good. So i took out the pellet gun. I put the rabbit on the ground and put the barrel up to the back of the head between the ears. One shot it was done. I was amazed how fast it was. For now on . I want him to use the gun instead hitting behind the head. I was so proud of myself that i did it from the start to the freezer. :)

Congratulations on your first dispatch. Very smart in choosing the pellet gun knowing you might not get that first swing correct. Glad to hear your husband's going to get you a smaller pellet gun.

I really dont know. ALl i know is it is a long barrol on it and it was heavy....So i told him about what i did and that i prefer that method from now on. He said that he is going to buy a smaller pellet gun. Like a hand one.

Make sure whatever he gets has at LEAST 750fps...a lot of the hand gun type pellet guns are too low powered to work properly. Also, if you get PolyMax Predator pellets, they work better (in my opinion) than plain lead pellets. I like to use our pellet rifle on the adults that we cull, since they are more difficult to maneuver on the Wringer.
