I think this problem came from because of the Inappropriate language people are using in the tattoos. You wont get a DQ from it but you could possibly be written up for it, if you are reported to ARBA. I saw one judge get quite upset after saying a horrible name out loud with out thinking with a group of youth exhibitors right next to him. I'm no saint I have a mouth like a sailor but I would not want that spoken out loud in front of my three year old!

I should not be surprised, but I am. Rabbit showing (at least in the shows I have attended) is mostly youth, WHY on earth would someone think it was appropriate -- and WHY ON EARTH would you name your rabbit a negative or dirty name? If you don't like the rabbit then cull it. ...Unless they like the rabbit, but think the name is just funny? I have pedigreed guinea pigs that have a family line of names like Crooked H00ker and such. I wondered who/why/WHY would someone do that. Maybe they do it for the Shock value??

Probably shock value or because they think it is "funny." :p Many probably don't even think about impressionable youth seeing/overhearing dirty or crude tattoos. :(

Since this is going along the same lines, I'm curious.

When you show another breeder's animal, it's proper to give them credit, right? Not say "MY rabbit won..." Curious.

That is what we did on the occasions we had to show purchased stock. I would always let anyone asking Where the rabbit came from. Then i would sent a note to the breeder letting them know and remarking how glad we were that they had sold us such nice rabbits.

.....or did You mean ... if You put another person's rabbits up for them ?? Then Definately i would state that these were So-and-so's rabbits and i was helping them out. :bunnyhop:

Always give credit where credit is due! At least if asked. :)

I have 2 Beveren that I have shown, and with the exception of one competitor at this last show, everyone knows that I didn't breed them. Then there is the JW, Showoff, who Queenpup "stole" from me, and we always tell everyone who we bought her from when she places in a show.

Someone mentioned here somewhere that they want three generations of their own breeding on an animal before showing. I agree that at that point, the credit goes to you, and only you. But I have shown all of my stock from purchase forward, simply to evaluate them and make certain I am proceeding in the right direction.

Couldn't agree more! :)

Some of my proudest moments are seeing new breeders/owners showing rabbits that were purchased from me and winning.
I have gotten a lot of the Youth in my 4H district and surrounding areas started with good quality rabbits. And the joy on their faces getting a ribbon is one of the best things. :)
And especially when they go on to produce their own Bunnies from my lines.. gives me that warm fuzzy feeling. haha.
As for tattoos, I had no idea about that either.

The breeder should allow the dash to be turned into an H, just not right otherwise.
