    Rabbit names

This is so funny! Some of mine have additional nicknames too because of things they do and their reputations. My Lady Grey’s other name is Murder Bun. 😂 She’s the sweetest thing with people, other rabbits though not so much. She hasn’t actually killed anyone except one of her own litters but I...

    Rabbit names

Love these names! 😊 I have a Lady Grey too, and my bunnies are (mostly) all named after tea/drinks. Butterbeer, London Fog, and someday I hope to keep a buck from Lady Grey and call him Earl. 😂 Pic is of Butterbeer sleeping.

Rabbit drooling but not dental issue? Advice please!

I know it’s been a few days but I wanted to make sure before I updated this. I’m pretty sure the problem was coccidiosis! He’s doing great now and even ate hay and some greens on his own yesterday- which hasn’t happened in weeks. 😍 Last week thought he was doing better on the critical care, but...

Rabbit drooling but not dental issue? Advice please!

Yep! I’m actually using the Sherwood brand rabbit recovery food and vitamin powder, but I have some oxbow critical care (apple banana flavored) that I’m going to try giving him today. Maybe he’ll like the taste better and will eat it without a syringe.

Rabbit drooling but not dental issue? Advice please!

I meant to add, he has definitely been spending a lot of time sitting like a loaf and grinding his teeth. Just hasn’t been himself at all. I think he’s in pain.

Rabbit drooling but not dental issue? Advice please!

The only change I know of is that my mom was helping me take care of the rabbits while I was away- right before the drooling started. She opened a new bag of hay and it was alfalfa not Timothy. I didn’t think it was a big deal since I was only gone for 2 weeks, but I live in a humid place...

Rabbit drooling but not dental issue? Advice please!

Well, I took him in to see the other vet today and she also confirmed that there isn’t anything wrong with his teeth. No burs for her to file down or any other dental problem. She gave him a vitamin B shot to encourage his appetite. I’m relieved that his teeth are okay but it’s also...

Rabbit drooling but not dental issue? Advice please!

Thank you for sharing your experience. It definitely could be related to a GI problem, this rabbit has had that in the past and I’m always having to stay on top of that. I’ll mention the abscess to the new vet. I managed to get an appointment for Monday so will be nice to just see what the other...

Rabbit drooling but not dental issue? Advice please!

My 1 year old rabbit started drooling on and off about 3 weeks ago. First week it happened it stopped after a couple days so I thought it was the smell of house paint- I had just painted the room he’s in the same day the drooling started. Then he started drooling again and completely stopped...

Too many kits for mom to care for?

Thank you for the insight! I currently have the metal kind, and I took out her hidey house the day before she kindled so that she doesn’t try to have the babies in there since she did that with the first litter and their legs were hanging out the wire. 😬 Maybe that freaked her out to suddenly...

Too many kits for mom to care for?

Oh wow! 14 kits is amazing, that definitely puts things in perspective for me. I can’t think of anything different that might be happening except that a few of my chickens keep getting on top of the rabbit cages at night. I didn’t think it was an issue but maybe it’s spooking her. I clipped...

Too many kits for mom to care for?

I meant to add, I’ve noticed that Lady Grey tends to be aggressive with other rabbits, I wonder if that’s a sign to look out for when it comes to selecting good mothers. It’s a shame too, because she’s by far the sweetest doe to people and easiest to handle. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I had high hopes for her...

Too many kits for mom to care for?

I just had my first major loss in my rabbitry last night. My NZ/checkered giant doe Lady Grey kindled while I was away at work and I came home to find her in the nest box with 8 dead babies. They all looked well formed and appeared to have been trampled and some bitten. This doe has...

Doe nest building 12 days early?

Wow it’s good to hear someone else’s rabbits do this. And good to know about the fur pulling, too. I once had a doe loose a litter halfway through just after she had built her nest. She didn’t pull any fur for that, so not sure if maybe she knew the litter wouldn’t make it, and she didn’t...

    Hello from New Hampshire

Hi! I raise mutt rabbits too, and just like you I love to see the colors. I second what @RabbitsOfTheCreek said, if you aren’t showing or have a line of purebreds I don’t think it matters. I hope you keep posting and let us know what kind of colors you’re getting! I got a sallander out of a...

Doe nest building 12 days early?

They’re so adorable! 😍 I have the same nesting box as you. Love it so much, and so easy to clean. Plus the babies poke their faces out that hole in the back. 😂

Doe nest building 12 days early?

When I first started with rabbits I thought early nesting was a sign of false pregnancy too! But it turned out to be untrue in my experience. My does have always still kindled on day 31 and pulled more fur. I have noticed that once they make that initial nest it’s really hard to get them to...

Doe nest building 12 days early?

Yeah both of my does still do this. I’ve also noticed that the initial nest they build on day 14-16 is not very finished or full. I’ve been gathering up the hair from early nests and saving it for when the babies come. In 2 weeks or so often times it’s already messed up or flying away.

    Do rabbits stress eat?

That is really smart! I put a chicken pen next to my bucks and I’ve noticed they’re less sensitive to noise than they used to be. I guess that’s what constant clucking does, similar to radio maybe. 😊
