    Blocked/Swollen Vent - graphic - Updated

Thanks, MSD. We just cleaned it off again and there was some blockage in the anus. It is clear for the moment. Poor thing looks pretty sore. We also checked all of its liter mates, and they all appear to be fine. None of them are swollen or blocked as far as we can tell.

    Blocked/Swollen Vent - graphic - Updated

It is 1 week today, so it has been nursing. I assumed everything else has been normal, but since momma takes care of all of that...we did not know otherwise until last night. The blockage looked like crusted feces that had bound itself to the flesh of the vent. It was difficult to clear it...

    Blocked/Swollen Vent - graphic - Updated

When we arrived home from worship this evening, we found one of our Mini Rex kits had a blocked and extremely swollen vent. It has been a crazy week (4H and county fair), I am not sure how long it has been that way. We lost an entire litter last week due to the heat and it has been even hotter...

    New Litter!!

Congratulations on the healthy kits. 11 is a great number! :) I am not as experienced as most here, but is it possible that it could just be dried milk? If the momma is doing a good job nursing they might just be messy eaters. As I said, it is just one of the more positive possibilities...

    Frustration/Has anyone seen this? *Graphic*

Thanks for all of the information. It sure helps confirm that I made the right decision. She was a Standard Rex that my daughter bought with her 4H money last summer. She paid too much (in my estimation), which made the decision that much more difficult. The buck is also a Standard Rex, and...

    Frustration/Has anyone seen this? *Graphic*

A little background... We bought a few rabbits last year. The two that we spent the most on have not had successful pregnancies. One of them was older and I think the stress of moving caused her to retain a kit. I processed her to see what might have been wrong (since she was obviously not...

What am I misunderstanding here? Updated with a picture :)

Sorry to not get the pictures up; the camera is not working. I did verify eye color (brown) and double checked undercoat (slate grey). We'll see what happens. Thanks for the input.

What am I misunderstanding here? Updated with a picture :)

The buck's eyes are brown (as are the doe's). I'll get pics up this evening (I'll try to get pics of the parents' undercoats too). The kits are 4 days old today. The color looks a little more silvery in the picture than in person. __________ Sun Apr 21, 2013 9:08 am __________ The thing is...

What am I misunderstanding here? Updated with a picture :)

Thanks for the help. His pedigree contains: Black, Brk Black, Castor, Brk Choc, Chin, and Choc. He is black (maybe?). Her's contains: Brk Blue, White, Blue, Brk Black, and Red. She is Brk Black and has had black, white, blue, and broken kits. This pairing was just to prove the buck, but is...

    Broken agouti? 4-20-13

What am I misunderstanding here? Updated with a picture :)

We bred a solid black Rex (formerly unproven buck) to a broken black New Zealand (very proven doe who was the only one that would accept his affections). We got a lot of agouti (and broken agouti) colored kits. I did not think that could happen with the self gene (black) being recessive...

    False Pregnancy?

Nothing! She did pull a little more fur, but that was all. She didn't seem to know what to do with the fur when she did pull it. She just kept it in her cheek and went about her business (eating and drinking included). So, we re-bred her. She seemed super excited to see that buck...

Thanks for the information. We'll keep our fingers crossed for tomorrow.

    False Pregnancy?

Thanks for the advice. In addition, I'm wondering if there is any way she may have aborted. She had a pretty big freak out session two nights ago, and I had to restrain her somewhat to keep her from hurting herself. Would she have to deliver them this close to term, or could she still absorb...

    False Pregnancy?

I have a Standard Rex doe, 11 months old. I was pretty sure she took when we bred her to our buck; I thought I felt something when I palpated, but she was pretty tense. Over the last week she has been really moody (evil) making all sorts of noise and trying to attack us. This morning there...
