4 days ago, I got a healthy litter from one of our first time does and she's been doing great! All 11 were born healthy and in the nesting box, and they've all survived. I've noticed something on a few of them that I got curious about, though. At least 3 of them have what looks like dried mucus around their noses. I didn't notice that with the other litter I had, and I was wondering if it was bad, or just the heat, or maybe if I needed to do something about it??

Congratulations on the healthy kits. 11 is a great number! :) I am not as experienced as most here, but is it possible that it could just be dried milk? If the momma is doing a good job nursing they might just be messy eaters. As I said, it is just one of the more positive possibilities, and I could be way off track. Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in soon. Good luck!

Thank you!! Haven't been on in over a week, but thank you. It's an idea.
We ended up losing one kit, and we're still unsure how, but he/she is gone, so we're down to 10. Hope they all survive!! And get nice and big :)

That was a terrific litter, especially for a first time doe. Few of us are that lucky with a first-timer. A doe only has 8 teats, so it has to be a good quality doe to raise 10 rabbits. The weakest kits sometimes get out competed and can't get enough milk.

That may only happen for once in a new litter for it to be too weak to feed in the next nursing. Sometimes with a litter that big, one may loose a couple. Still, if you end up with any more than 8 it is a plus. Most of us try to breed at least two does at the same time, so if one has 6 or 7 kits one can move a couple over to it. If you are raising for show and need to know which kits came from who, it is hard to mark a kit in any way that will last more than a couple of days.
