Wind?

The Ceramic Tile will help cool them so long as it is cold, when it heats up enough it too will cause even more problems. Some people keep bricks and big pieces of thick ceramic tiles in a refrigerator or freezer for them. Last year I did use some frozen ice bottles to help the rabbits out, I...

    Wind?

Actually, once you hit just under a hundred, a dry breeze can actually cause more problems for the rabbits than still air. I'm using misters to help cool the rabbits, it worked through 110+ degree days last year and I'm doing it again this year. If you are keeping the air moving in those...

    Watering system, rabbits won't drink

Yeah, I did them that way and upside down from that... Hopefully they will get the hang of it soon. I don't understand why no one makes watering tips that work like the water bottles do, for rabbits used to the bottles... maybe it's too much water pressure for that kind of tip?

    Watering system, rabbits won't drink

I've bred the rabbits for the second time, and this time I just can't keep up with filling the bottles. Since I have more kits this time too, it's going to take more cages, and more bottles when I separate them. So I finally got around to a watering system. 1 five gallon bucket, a bunch of...

Lost our kindle--what do we do now?

Did they seem fed? Rabbits don't really protect their young. Wearing gloves is unnecessary but won't hurt anything unless he had something toxic on them. Check her for mastitis and re breed her.

-- Tue Mar 31, 2015 7:42 pm --

You said they have a space heater, is that...

Is this normal spring behavior or am I doing something wrong

Do you think they may be not getting enough nutrition? With no pellets I would think that you ought to be at least feeding them some grains other than BOSS.

Is a Colony right for me?

Maggie that pdf was interesting. That system also looks like quite a bit of work to set up, but seems like it could be promising. It also seems like the row of "clay pots" could be used as a garden, which would do wonders for keeping it cooled down.

Is a Colony right for me?

Thanks for the answers so far. The guy I bought these rabbits from had some tiny cages, so most of the time they were almost free range in his yard, or on the side yard. One got out once, but came back, and one was killed by a dog, and another was maimed by dogs and I ended up putting her down...

Is it too hot for mama? 8 stillborn kits

If you can't bring her inside, how about some misters to help keep her cooled down? The way mine are set up right now I have the misters in front of the cages, a few feet higher than the top of the cages, and plywood on top of the cages so it isn't misting directly on them. If they want to sit...

Is a Colony right for me?

So, I have a breeding trio, both females have had one litter since I got them. Not breeding them again for a few months because of the summer heat. They are currently in wire cages on my front porch, soon as the chicken run is done I'm planning to move the cages back there. I've been thinking...

    feeding hay

Well, that was an easy experiment. When I got home this morning I put a small amount of hay into the cages, (most of the leafy bits fell through) and then scooped up some of the leafy bits from the ground by the hay bale and stuck them in the bowls. They were much, much more interested in the...

    feeding greens on wet days?

I feed a combination of pellets, hay, oats, and greens. I feed the greens when I get home from work in the morning. Most days when I do so the cages are empty of hay and greens. If they have been getting a lot of stuff they don't like (they eat the grass from fox tails but not the seed heads)...

    feeding hay

One other question. The alfalfa is a combination of stems and the crushed, almost powdery leaves, I guess. Usually I try to pile that stuff on top of some other hay so they can eat it before it falls through. I don't know if they really eat it though. If I use a feeder outsideof the cage, they...

    feeding hay

My does and litters are I'm cages with wooden roofs. My buck, however, seems healthy but sort of despondent at times. I think he's lonely. The previous owners kept them out of cages on the side of the house. This led to a couple of deaths from dogs, but they lived together and were probably...

    feeding hay

10 dollars per 50 pound bale is 20 cents per pound. Mine is closer to 10 cents per pound (not organic) but sheen I say they waste a lot I mean I'm guessing at least two thirds of it is going to waste, it's got to be costing me as much as pellets do right now. I'm looking at other options right...

    feeding hay

That looks awesome, I just imagine that the babies would poop in it a lot. I also imagine that there would be a lot of loss of hay with mine. I'm not sure why mine lose so much hay, it can't be just falling down through half inch by one inch hardware cloth so I imagine they are rooting through it.

    feeding hay

I'd thought about a hay rack style feeder, but i've read that they end up eating less hay using them. I'm trying to get these guys eating less pellets and more hay, but I take it this hasn't been a problem for you?

    feeding hay

Ok, I have just a stupid question here. How am I supposed to feed hay without losing most of it? I've tried putting it in a bowl, it ends up being harder for them to eat, and the babies end up sitting in it and pooping in it. there also isn't enough room in the bowls I have to give them much...

New Rabbits, a little advice please.

So, all ten are still doing well, growing like crazy. They all seem to be eating (Drinking, I'm assuming, though I haven't seen it yet), they are eating the pellets, the oats, the greens, the hay, everything I give the moms they seem to be doing their best to eat it all. They no longer seem to...

    Alfalfa Hay Question

Do you feed the same thing to your bucks? Just alternate the amounts you feed of everything? Or basically just let them self select how much of the hays to eat?
