What would you add to this horse food?

I was looking at basing the diet on sugar beet pulp and alfalfa hay - then found this http://www.efeed.co.uk/products/horse-f ... /alphabeet What do you think it's missing? If anything?

Popples at last! *now with pic*

Seven babies in the nest today - no sign of nesting last thing last night. She's obviously a sneaky mum! We'll have to wait to see who Dad is though

    Doe - white/red/creamy "urine"

The hopefully-pregnant doe I moved into a cage yesterday, this morning has an area of urine/discharge/liquid. She has been on deep litter previously so I haven't seen anything similar from her before. The liquid is a fairly thick/creamy, white tinged with red. Any ideas?? No sign of kits etc...

Help with muddled thoughts - please!

I'm going around in circles and could do with an outside opinion. My current set up is as follows: Standard Rex buck and silver marten doe (hopefully pregnant) in a pen approx 6' x 6', deep litter, fed hay, pellets, and veg scraps. Silver marten buck (thank you Sex Change Fairy!) in a side pen...

    What would you dehydrate?

For winter feeding, what kind of roots/plants would you dehydrate to store? Or would you just buy a bag of sugar beet chips? ;)

    "She" is a "he"

 So the nice quiet, fairly chilled silver marten "doe" was getting bullied by the rex buck, so I pulled "her" out to check "her" over - there had been a few tufts of fur flying. What I first thought was some kind of horrific injury turned out to be a pair of balls....and yes I did flip...

    Inulin (found in Jerusalem artichokes)

I'm still looking at high yeilding, indestructable crops that could form a staple of my rabbits' diet. I was considering Jerusalem artichokes, as they are related to sunflowers and I know sunflower stalks can be fed. Then I wondered about the actual tubers, which led me on to wondering about the...

    Grass seed mix

I'm considering sneakily turning the lawn into rabbit food production, so looking at various grass seed mixes. And now I'm spoilt for choice! Any opinions on anything here https://www.cotswoldseeds.com/seedmix/herbal-leys ?

    Keen buck

Little swine climbed out of his pen overnight and was discovered this morning snuggled up to doe 2. His pen now has a lid  Doe 1 hasn't lifted for him yet, I guess I just keep putting them together (under supervision) until something happens?

    Colour question

What do you think a silver marten and an otter* rex would produce in terms of colours? At a glance, they seem similar - dark on top, pale underneath - but I bet it's more complicated than that? ;) *he's either very dark chocolate or faded black!

    Opinions on this cage?

I want a colony system, but I have just found rats on the property. It's making me question the whole set-up... Anyway, wire rabbit cages are not widely available here, but a batch has come up for sale. They're too far to go and inspect and this is the only picture. Dimensions are 2 foot by 3...

    Doe behaviour and RATS

Quick newbie question - when I go to feed the does I break up the carrot (or whatever) into two or three sections, but one doe keeps chasing/following the other - not chasing as in running around, just following very close, head to the ribcage. I'm reading it as a dominance thing - does this...

    Draining fodder/sprouting trays

 There was a thread detailing some sprouting/fodder growing systems, which referred to a similar thread in a chicken forum for pictures, and the main glitch seemed to be a lack of drainage causing mould. Someone on one of the forums had found some cheap baskets with a fine mesh bottom but...

    So much wee!

I think I really underestimated how much two does would wee  and they're going in the nestbox too. Would you suggest removing the nestbox until it's needed? Any other tips or tricks? I shredded newspaper into the pen for extra warmth but I think it's this that's (not) absorbing the urine...

    Timothy hay?

Silly question alert  I see mention of "timothy hay" all over, but when I google it I just get sites selling expensive small bags of hay for small pets. How/why is this type supposed to be so much better? I just have "hay" - which as far as I know is a mixture of whatever grasses were...

    Amaranths / chenopodium

Does anyone know if the saponins in "grains" such as quinoa are harmful to bunnies? I'm thinking of growing a patch of something like this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amaranth_grain and just giving the leaves/seed heads/stems as-and-when. It would seem to be a good source of extra energy...

    Crossing different sized breeds

With sheep/cattle etc, it's pretty common to use a larger breed sire over a smaller breed female - as long as she has enough milk, it is an efficient way to get good sized offspring. Does the same apply to rabbits? Within reason of course - no Flemish giants on dwarf does!!

    Comments on my plan?

Hello :) I've recently acquired two silver fox sisters, a little earlier than planned as they were free! I'm planning small scale meat rabbit breeding, to feed me and a dog, and to keep pelts as well. I like the idea of colonies and natural feeding, but right now that's not really possible so...
