    Winter Processing

Kitty102, I am about to be in the same spot. I just had a litter of kits and have three more does due in the next couple weeks. I will probably be doing like others on here stated; kill outside and then bring in to finish. LilacGal, Trapping is still very much alive. There is a very good...

    Snowball Popped!!!!!!

I am very happy and excited. She had all of her babies in the nesting box; no still-borns or any on the wire. I was about to give up on her as she didn't take the last time that she was supposed to be bred.

    Snowball Popped!!!!!!

Snowball finally popped :D . I bred her back after not getting babies last month and this morning I came out to a squirmy hopping mass of snowball fir. I looked inside and I see eleven healthy babies. Very excited as this is my first litter of rabbits. Then it occurred to me; Now what do I do?

Let The Congratulations Begin... (meat rabbits)

Congratulations on your decision to do the processing yourself :clap2:. I think that we have done ourselves a great disservice by not knowing where our food comes from and what goes into getting it on our plates. There is a certain feeling about being involved in every aspect of providing meat...

Day 28, Patience is not my best virtue!

Well, we still have no babies. I re-bred her so we'll see if she takes this time, if not she may be making other housing arrangements. Don't much like feeding a meat momma that won't give me meat babies. I'll give her another month and see what happens.

Day 28, Patience is not my best virtue!

Well now we're on day 33 and still no babies. Wondering if maybe she didn't take? Haven't checked since I just got home from work. We'll see in the AM when I go out to feed. Not sure who's not working between the doe or the buck. Maybe give it another couple of days and then put her back in...

Day 28, Patience is not my best virtue!

Still nothing yet. Getting even more impatient. She seems to have started her nest but no hair pulled or any other signs that she is getting ready to have babies. Not sure how much longer to wait before I try breeding he again. She was bred on the first of October so it should be any day I...

Day 28, Patience is not my best virtue!

Today is day 28 for my New Zealand doe. Put the nest box in and she immediately started re-arranging things. She is bred to my chinchilla looking buck (was told he is a Flemish Giant but he looks more like an American Chinchilla) so we should have some cool looking meat mutts. I'm hoping to...

    Congrats!!

    Flemish Giant????

Thanks for all the input. Maybe he is purebred Flemish. I don't have any papers and my kids would never allow me to sell him either way. He is a neat guy and very friendly with my kids. I separated him from the doe for a day and when I re-introduced her into his cage he didn't waste any time...

    Flemish Giant????

I was wondering about the possibility of him possibly being a chin or Flemish cross. Not sure though. He is one of my first two rabbits and I just bred him to my NZ doe. Should make pretty babies. I don't have any real experience with rabbits other than the rabbit kids bunnies when I was in...

    Finally got my rabbits!!

Hi JessiL, I am the one that emailed you. I haven't heard from you yet but did miss a call while I was unable to answer my phone. I would like to talk to you some and possibly take a look at your rabbits. If you do not have the original email, send me a PM and I will give you my phone number...

    Flemish Giant????

When I bought my rabbits the seller told me that this guy is a Flemish Giant. I'm sort of wondering if that is correct since he is no bigger than the New Zealand doe that I bought. He is supposed to be around two years old. I weighed him today on my bathroom scale and he only weighs around 8-9...

    Finally got my rabbits!!

Miss M, that is actually the cage that they were in before I bought them. They are now in a proper cage with 1X2 wire sides and 1/2X1 wire bottoms with a 2X6 in the cave so they can get off the wire. I have also separated them now. I am not entirely sure that the doe is bred. I tried to feel for...

    Finally got my rabbits!!

Thanks for advice and the welcome. I will build a box tomorrow when I get off work. I am in Gardnerville, about an hour south of Reno. I am toying with the idea of letting my kids do 4H with rabbits and would definitely have to look up one of the local purebred breeders for 4H breeding stock.

    Finally got my rabbits!!

I just acquired a pair of rabbits. I got a grey colored Flemish buck and a NZ White doe. Not sure if I'm going to keep the buck or try to find a NZ buck. They are my first attempt at meat rabbits. The guy that I bought them from said that he thought that the doe is pregnant but wasn't sure...
