Florida Jeff new guy on the block (blog).

We raise Tamuks and love them. They grow and mature very fast usually males by 4-4.5 months and does a month later. Great temperments, large litters, good moms and heat tolerant.

    Breeding

We have just had 3 of our does haystach and pull some fur 1.5 weeks ahead of kindling date. One a proven mom, one that we purchased so we don't know her routine, and a first time mom. Was worried they all had false pregnancies, but all seem to be pregnant by fullness so we will wait and see...

Meat rabbit housing and some other questions

Yup I misspoke! Definitely Cedar is the bad option, toxic to rabbits! Pine is ok, sorry for my dyslexia!

Meat rabbit housing and some other questions

Be careful with the type of wood shavings as some are toxic (like pine shavings) to rabbits.

    Woe of rabbit...

not sure but possibly stimulating false pregnancies. False pregnancies usually happen 14-17 days after breeding, but I know even scratching a doe who is receptive on her rear or another doe mounting can bring on a false pregnancy.

    Exhausting, ideas?

I'm so sorry your whole litter died, it is heartbreaking to try everything and still lose them. They were beautiful. We have a Tumuk that has between 13 and 15 each time and her milk doesn't come in till the 3rd or 4th day so we have had to supplement the ones that live until she gets her milk...

Why is my daughter suddenly getting sprayed by our bucks

Some people say its a compliment, lol, that it is because they like you. The other day she got it again from another young buck who is now banned to a lower cage! Glad they do not like me as much as her!!!!

    Woe of rabbit...

remember taco (slit) with short distance to anus is a doe, burrito (volcano, round) with more space between is a buck Some are hard until they get older and some can have a split ***** which is really confusing and not a good trait. There are several really good videos on sexing on You Tube

Rex living on wire - a problem or not

We have KW 1" by 1/2" coated wire, use square ceramic tiles in the summer and always have a KW plastic pad or two in their cages, have never had a problem. Look for Rex with heavily furred feet. I have one doe that has always had a callous but never has got sore.

2 week old kit out of nest box and breathing weird :(

More prayers coming! That's a tough decision. Is your hay or nesting material dusty? If you have some electrolytes or vita drops to give the new problem baby in a syringe that might help. Check its nose to see if there is next material clogging it. Mom isn't sneezing or showing any signs...

    One Gorgeous Kit

In meat or show rabbits is is perfectly ok to breed father to daughter or mother and son, half siblings are ok too. It is called line breeding and is done to accentuate good genes (and will also show up bad genes especially if siblings are bred together). But often done and .for meat rabbits...

    Help! Rabbit is attacking me!!

Rename him immediately!!!! And when my temperamental hormonal young does get oinky or threaten to lunge, I put my hand over their head and firmly press their head down to the floor and say NO! It is rabbit language and it works. Wear gloves when trying to handle him and see if that doesn't...

Why is my daughter suddenly getting sprayed by our bucks

I have a question. My daughter has been sprayed by two separate bucks in one week, never happened before. I am wondering if the floral perfume she was wearing today when it happened could be the culprit for having these guys spray her. I noticed her perfume was strong as she was going to an...

2 week old kit out of nest box and breathing weird :(

I agree with the nest changing but we do it by at a week, the kits get eye infections very easily. We turn the box over after two weeks like they said but do not remove it until about 3 weeks. And if at all possible we leave our kits with their mom until at least 8 weeks. This is so the kits...

Basic hutch questions from a newbie

If you have a chicken wire exercise run, you have to dig the wire down into the ground. Otherwise the buns will dig out in nothing flat! They are great diggers. If you put chicken wire down over the grass as a floor, they can't dig out but you have to move it often or the grass will be gone...

Who here is active in the ARBA?

Some people go to all kinds of shows, very serious about it, but many people show around closer to their own local area. It is really good for kids but can get boring too. Many shows will have 2 or even 3 in one day so your buns can be judged by different judges and it is all in a one or two...

Bad teeth in my herd? Can I fix it?

Go to the Breeders USA or type in Breeders by State in your browser to see who is active for Satin breeders in your state. Transport is really a thing now enabling the ability to get really nice unrelated stock brought in from major breeders in other states.
