    First time processing...

I am fairly new at this so hopefully others respond. After processing I put them in bags with no water, place in refrigerator and wait 2 to 3 days. This has produced very pleasing results for me. I didn't change the temperature of the refrigerator. As far as the rigor mortise goes it seems the...

    Rabbit Meat

Did you let them rest a day or two in the fridge or cooler before cooking or freezing?

    Glad to find this group!

Just two litters so far. I bred 2 does with a buck a day apart. The 17 babies right now are just 6 weeks old.

    Greetings!

Hi! I am pretty new myself to the rabbit and chicken world. Also trying to be more self sufficient. I am curious why you say you will need another meat source. If you don't mind my asking. I am hoping this will be enough for my family, other than just really wanting some chili with beef or an...

    Glad to find this group!

Also, as is obvious from my avatar, I ended up with some non-white NZ's. I bought the trio at a discount from a family that was second guessing their rabbit commitment.

    Glad to find this group!

I am not opposed to other breeds. My motive for raising them is meat for our family. I have read the NZ whites were good for that so that is why I chose the breed. I have enjoyed our first two litters so much and have extra room that I wouldn't mind expanding if I knew the market was good for...

To scruff or not to scruff?

Do you put them head first in the bag?

To scruff or not to scruff?

Thanks for the ideas. I'm sure trying to befriend them. I think I will do some practice picking up and holding before breeding day so it isn't so stressful hopefully.

To scruff or not to scruff?

Thanks so much for the detailed explanation. I will definitely be working on that holding method. And good to hear the temperament will change with good breeding. One of my does will be culled as soon as her litter is weaned. She bites and a couple of her babies have bit. The other doe and her...

To scruff or not to scruff?

I will try. Maybe now that they have been with me a while and I have bite gloves I may have better luck. A picture would be nice if you can manage.

    Ok, thanks for the response.

To scruff or not to scruff?

Good to know your rabbits haven't experienced any injuries from being picked up that way. The 3 adults weren't handled much in their previous home. I am hoping the young ones I am raising to replace them will be more calm.

To scruff or not to scruff?

Picking up by the skin on the back of the neck.

To scruff or not to scruff?

I am pretty new at this rabbit buisness. I started out with 3 adult NZs and they were used to being scruffed when I brought them home. I have read it's dangerous and can tear the skin so I attempted to pick them up "correctly" but they attempted to slice me up with the razor blades attached to...

    What happened to these kits?

Thank a bunch! They may not be full NZ. The folks I got them from didn't seem to have much information about them. I do think the broken one may be getting bullied. It doesn't seem to be growing much. But I will post an update here later on if they make it. Thanks again 🙂

    What happened to these kits?

The REW is next to a normal kit. The other pic is of the little rough haired broken one with the bald patch.

    Oh sorry. I ment to.

    What happened to these kits?

I am just getting started in this so please excuse me if I don't use proper terms and I welcome any help you can give. I have a trio of non related young New Zealands that are not quite ready to breed but also an adult trio from a family that had acquired them from a retiring rabbitry and...
