Singleton kit and first-time doe problems! (Update 5/14)

Well, he's 2 weeks old today... The little guy is still small and fluffy, but I think the cause for his size may be lack of nutrition. I don't think he's getting enough food from me feeding him in the evening and Mimi feeding him in the morning so I am going to switch him to two formula...

Singleton kit and first-time doe problems! (Update 5/14)

He is a Holland lop, Demamma. And yes, he does look quite fluffy in every picture I take... I'm not sure if it is because all the fur on his back is stuck in this permanent "mohawk" shape or because there is a chance that he could be a Fuzzy Holland... I guess I'll have to wait and see! :)

Singleton kit and first-time doe problems! (Update 5/14)

The little singleton is doing pretty good right now. :) He is eating about 50% formula and 50% from his mother. (Together we're keeping that belly full! ;) ) Unfortunately, he does pee on himself a fair bit and Mimi doesn't want to help with the cleaing; just the feeding. Mimi still...

leg bitten off 5 week old! update; 7 weeks and doing great!

Well, as I don't know exactly how your little bun's leg looks and the exacts of what happened to him, I cannot tell you what his chances are... But I do know that as long as he is not in pain and the leg heals alright, he may yet have a wonderful life. I know someone who has an adorable 1 year...

leg bitten off 5 week old! update; 7 weeks and doing great!

The doe should be just fine if you just take the kits, but you can give her some mint leaves to help stop the milk flow if you feel like you want to help her out. Good luck with your baby bunnies! :clover:

Singleton kit and first-time doe problems! (Update 5/14)

Well... Thursday night the kit did not get anything from mom, so I gave my first attempt at bottle feeding. It took us quite a while to get the hang of it, but he at least got some food into his belly. Then, yesterday morning, I tried the kangaroo pouch idea and he still didn't get any milk; I...

Singleton kit and first-time doe problems! (Update 5/14)

Okay, I'll let him try tonight's feeding on mom, but if he doesn't get a full belly, I'll feed him a little bit of formula and see how that goes.

Singleton kit and first-time doe problems! (Update 5/14)

His belly was slightly different after last night's feeding, but it wasn't any different this morning. Either way it is not distending at all and is quite wrinkly. I'll go see if I can get a good picture... __________ Thu May 02, 2013 11:09 am __________ Okay, here are pictures taken 1.5 hours...

Singleton kit and first-time doe problems! (Update 5/14)

Okay... Now some not so good news. For the past 2-3 feedings I am pretty certain that the kit has not been getting much if any milk from the mother. I have been giving her the nestbox and baby every morning and evening; does the exact timing (how early or how late) matter? I am going to give...

leg bitten off 5 week old! update; 7 weeks and doing great!

Can you try separating the affected kits from the ones not yet showing any symptoms?

leg bitten off 5 week old! update; 7 weeks and doing great!

You can try a little bit a sugar water to perk them up long enough to nurse; sometimes that works. And as to weaning, if they are already eating pellets and hay than they are old enough that you could wean them. I am not sure if you will need to change anything since they are younger than usual...

Things only rabbit people would understand!

:rotfl:  I think this one gets all of us! People have yet to get used to me saying that; and usually I try to avoid such "talk" for the city dwellers. :)
