    Homemade Gambrel

I don't have the tools to work with chain effectively here, and no decent hardware store either, so I made one similar to grumpy's but rather than metal chain, mine is out of good nylon cording that I braided to several thicknesses worth for extra strength, and looped through drilled holes in a...

    ground rabbit meat?

When I do it, I'm practically -only- grinding up the scrappy bits. I keep the legs for making meals out of, and into my grinder go the loins, tenderloins, belly flaps, untidy trimmings from the legs, rib meat scrapings, neck meat that isn't gristle or damaged (the collar-area mostly that goes...

    NZW weights at 4 weeks?

Lereg15, my meat herd are NZW and Californians and I had pretty low weights at first (not even just low compared to the people who'd been working for years to get their numbers up like the folks here - I mean like "are you secretly a dwarf?" low... tasted fine though...) I'm still trying...

input please on this type floor? wood slats?

Nika, I can't see your images :( EnglishSpot: in answer to your likes/dislikes question, I do like the fact that in my wood hutches, like Preitler, I don't need a "nest box" for my does to kindle in - so there's no chance of me putting it in on the wrong day or the doe not using it at all or...

    Possibly a miracle... [+weird update!]

Does it have feeling in the lower legs? Like, obviously don't pinch it for the sake of it, that would be mean - but does it react to being poked in the toe, etc? I know it's hard to gauge reactions in a tiny baby rabbit but if there's no feeling at all and e.g. it doesn't even notice you messing...

    Possibly a miracle... [+weird update!]

I take it this is not the same one with the funny paw and the weird lump? Maybe mom trod/lay on this one and broke its back. Sad to say, but if it really is paralysed from the middle down then it won't be able to defecate or urinate, so it'll be very uncomfortable before too long. It'll also...

    What Colour?

Ooh, another UK person! *waves* All the kits are out of the nest and nibbling at food and coming to the door to see what I have for them when I visit now (last time I took the picture, I had to swipe the kit out of the nest when momma wasn't looking) so it should be easier to look for any of...

    Foods for improving condition

You can probably just put the blackstrap into a bowl with a drop of warm water to loosen it a bit, and then mix in some of your BOSS or oats (not the pellets though, I expect they'd go into a gross mush) and it will coat the outside of those things. If she eats them up quickly it won't make a...

Help me find a website that shows Rabbit Fetal Development

I've seen a very helpful website detailing fetal development in cats - a vet took the time to develop a fairly comprehensive catalogue of images during the huge number of spays she had to perform during her career, and during the caesareans she carried out when things didn't go right...obviously...

    Foods for improving condition

Do you have access to blackstrap molasses and/or ground wheatgerm? Both are nutrient dense and rabbits seem to find them very tasty. The germ is the super-nutritious part of the wheat kernel, so it packs a lot of punch without taking up a lot of room in the stomach. Round here, ground...

    Let's talk about food!

Lots of people in my family (dad's side) have fibromyalgia, and while I have a pretty bad back, a fair few joint issues, a lot of fatigue and some general won't-go-away pain, I'm thankful that it isn't as extreme as that for me. I've also been tested for celiac disease and been speculatively...

    Sudden change in pellet brand?

It could be a problem. It could upset tummies, depending on how delicate your buns are and how much of their diet is made up of pellets. I would recommend giving lots and lots of hay and fresh water and only a very small ration of the new pellets for several days if you can, to minimise any...

    Let's talk about food!

One thing I noticed crop up in the recent health discussion (and also in a few other threads previously) was food - additives, GM, the supply chain and what's happening to it, food labelling, available choices, cost, preferences, planning for your view of the future re: food, and so on. I'd be...

help with some plant ID please! pic heavy!

I also feed rumex (dock) with no apparent ill effects, but avoid it too late when it's gone to seed too. Mine go mad for it, they prefer it to almost everything else I pick for them bar dandelions, but there's never more than a leaf each available so they can't eat loads of it even if they...

help with some plant ID please! pic heavy!

MaggieJ told me the entirety of a proper QAL plant smells very carroty when bruised. I myself know hemlock in any variety smells nasty, almost like pee, and yarrow smells strongly floral. That might help ID, but be careful if you aren't sure. Hope this helps - at work on phone, sorry for short post!
