I've seen Fire-Man's meals on wheels before! Super cool!
Any thoughts on using 1/8" Mesh instead of 1/4" to take advantage of the smaller manure from kits as they grow?
1/8" has a much bigger chance of getting clogged.
It's been a while since I posted but I just wanted to thank everyone on this forum for creating such an amazing resource!
I started last summer with NZW meat rabbits and I've been loving it everyday! When I started I posted a fair bit of questions and I received a lot of help. After that...
Curious if anyone collects their rabbit manure with mesh? 1/4" Mesh is what the user Truckinguy started with here: http://www.homesteadingtoday.com/4479581-post8.html
I'm wanting to find an easy way to collect the manure pellets so they can be slightly air/sun dried and then put into bags so I...
I've had a lot of hay wastage falling through the cage floor. What I just started doing is feeding less hay. Day by day a bit more. Now I am down a significant amount. The rabbits eat it fairly quickly before any falls through the cage floor.
Now I will slowly start to add more hay until...
SatinsRule - I'm replying to you in both threads now :)
Don't worry I'm not out to call you a liar! I appreciate all feedback and being part of the discussion as I continue to learn about raising rabbits.
I did find an interesting research paper that found some interesting results...
SatinsRule - Thanks for the point that the content of the feed is super important. I will check my feed bags and compare to what else I can get around here.
Just curious what % protein in pellets is recommended for kits. I currently use 18% for my kits because that is what their mother got and I never thought of switching. My breeding buck I feed 16%.
I also feed lots of hay.
What do you guys use? (or suggest - or have found to help kits grow to...
Grumpy - I'm going to start another post as well on this topic - but interested in your thoughts on the higher protein pellets. I also am feeding my kits 18% protein because that is what I continued to give their mother after she gave birth. The kits then started the 18% pellets and I didn't...
Just curious what the bigger sized producers are doing. Do they only feed pellets (for speed and ease).
I feed a lot of hay with my pellets - and a fair bit falls through the cage as the rabbits sort through it. I can see how in a large commercial setup this could mean more management...
I was just thinking about this today. I love the concept of pastured rabbits - BUT because they only need to grow till 10-12 weeks does it not make more sense to grow your own grass for hay (or buy a bale of hay). Small square bales last me a fair amount of time and are dirt cheap compared to...
I have a small litter of 5 NZW's. Can I keep them all in the same cage till 10-12 weeks or should I still separate the males/females. I know maturity starts to happen after 3 months so I may be pushing it.
Whats the most kits you can have in a 36x24 cage till 10-12 weeks that is still...
Hey Randy - I'd look at Grandview Rabbitry (http://www.grandviewrabbitry.com/) as someone else has suggested.
You can buy unassembled cages that have the doors mounted - so it is more cost effective and saves a lot of time cutting mesh. It's also enjoyable putting the cage together with...
LoraAnnIN - As many have said - don't be discouraged! I too just started with rabbits and am going through a learning curve. This forum has been a great resource for me and if you do have questions ask! There are so many people on this forum willing to help! I gotta agree with MamaSheepDog...
