Thanks Maggie. Things have changed a lot here. Still have my bees and I am in the process of extracting honey, but main concern is keeping my Californians cool. It has been hot here and I am up to about a hundred head now counting babies. Too many for frozen water bottles. Things are good...
I haven't been here in while but for an update. I made it through just fine. I was lucky that most of the rain was either west or east of me. I am far enough a way from the major rivers that are causing all the flooding now. The Sabine river has caused I10 to be closed today. Very very lucky here.
What seems to help me with nest box eye is to change out the bedding in my nest boxes on the 8th day before there eyes open. I live in south Louisiana and if it is cold the does usually pull more fur to cover the kits. Since I started doing that I don't have much trouble with nest box eye.
Is that 1/4" hardware cloth. I used 1/4" for a while but switched 1/8" after a few kits got their leg caught in it and broke their legs when there mother pushed on the nest box.
Ramjet, my suggestion to you would be to try and get in touch with the beekeeper that had bees near by. He lost that location and I bet would love to put bees on your property.
You need a mentor and that beekeeper knows the area and can help you get started.
If I can help you in any way, PM me...
I can't believe I missed this thread up until now.

Nice pictures Miss M. I think those are two lucky Cals. to be where they are.
