My rabbits don't have sore hocks but this thread made me really want to put socks on them anyway- the photos are so cute :)

I wonder if 17+ umf Manuka honey would be good for sore hocks. Has anyone tried it? Vets use it to pack abscesses in rabbits so I'm thinking it would cure sore hocks. Its supposed to be anti-fungal too. Plus its also used to treat infected foot sores on diabetics and bed sores in humans.
I've heard of doing this, but I've always been afraid of attracting ants. Especially fire ants. :(

Oh my gosh, I never thought of Manuka honey and ants  and fire ants would be even worse!

Update....we changed bandages and socks tonight, only puss was less than you would get from a small pimple, total on both feet. No swelling at all.She seemed calm and happy didn't even flinch at the cleaning. :D The antibiotic cream I'm using has a pain reliever in it so I am hoping that will ease any discomfort. New skin is growing so I am sooooo happy :) Even if she doesn't fur back up at least she will be healed.Thank you so much again! I love this place, so helpful and supportive.

Yeah... we tried honey on an injured critter when I was a teen. The horrible image of the fire ants swarmed all over it when we went to check how it was doing later is still burned into my brain. :(

That's wonderful! :bouncy:

I used an antibiotic with pain reliever, too. Her feet were so bad, I gave her a baby aspirin tucked inside of a raisin every night after the whole ordeal. She wouldn't take it until she was safely back in her cage. Then she would eat it and the several other raisins we gave her as reward.

Her feet look so good now, it almost makes me cry to look at them. The spots are bald, but they're healed.

Thank you so much for the update! It made me feel so good! :grouphug: And I agree with you about RT... I don't know what I ever would have done without this place!

Ugh! One of my rabbits had sore hock and then I happened to flip Shadow my pet Mini Rex over and he has it to, so Shadow went into the chicken pen and Isabel is in the smaller hutch, I put straw down so she isn't on the wire, tomorrow I'm going to find a box and hopefully I can litter train her. Is Vetericyn a good thing to spray on or should I use something else? I tried wrapping their feet with vet wrap but they wouldn't have it.

I plan on picking some up next time I go to town but until then I have to be patient  and hope the rabbits are doing good :bunnyhop: although I'm like this when I'm waiting :wall: lol. I'll continue to treat them a couple times a day.

If your buns feet are small maybe a finger from a pair of gardening gloves would work....it just needs to come up over the bandage and have enough to tape around. Just a thought.
